This question was spurred by some discussion about closing of streets, thereby forcing cyclists to different routes through the city. This question is to people who ride frequently on City of Fort Worth streets. What are some of your favorite bicycle friendly routes and streets in the city?

From SW Ft Worth to The Trailhead at Clearfork (Mellow Johnny's, Press Cafe): Westcreek > South Ridge > Trail Lake > South Drive > Foster Park (or Ranier if you don't mind climbing up to it) > Overton Park East > Ranch View > Overton Park West > the trail along the creek > low water crossing > Trailhead. Looks like it's a lot of turns but they pretty much lead one to the next. That route requires taking the lane on Trail Lake which might be intimidating to some, but if you position your bike in the middle of the lane, you won't have a problem with cars, in my experience.
From SW Ft Worth to the Near Southside: When I lived further south, I would cut through the neighborhood streets between McCart and Crowley > Westcreek Park > Jennie Drive > Edgecliff Road > James Avenue*** > 8th Ave > Bolt > Ryan Ave > Biddison (to cross the tracks) > Ryan Ave > Cantey > Willing > Fairmount
***James Ave can be avoided by taking Edgecliff > Westcrest > Wayside > I-20 access road (going against traffic going northward going under I-20) > Townsend > Spurgeon > Stanley > Broadus > James for only one block.
Now that I'm in South Hills, I either cross McCart at Gambrell and follow it around to Seminary, Seminary to 8th and continue my Near Southside route above, or I take Lubbock > Pafford > Merida > Dickson > Townsend or Gordon > Biddison, then follow Ryan northward.
If you look at my Strava Heatmap, you can see these routes and more. https://www.strava.c...70375/-97.35395

Doohickie, your old routes are some of my old standards, going north and south from my house. I used the Ryan/Willing/Fairmount route when heading north, and the Townsend/Southcrest/Wayside/I-20 Access Road/Westcrest/Edgecliff when I headed south. The only difference has been the closure of Gambrell at the railroad tracks. I would either cross Seminary at Frazier or at 6th Ave. over to Gambrell and around the Seminary to get to Townsend Dr. However, since my accident, I have not ridden but just a handful of times on the street and I have driven to the trail.
My old route to the trail did deviate somewhat from other routes north. I would stay on Ryan after Cantey and then continue when it changed to Hurley to Arlington, then west on Arlington to pick up my cycling friends who live in Berkeley (one on Stanley just south of Windsor, and one on Windsor itself). Then we would head north on Warner/Pembroke/Berkeley Place over to Park Place and then down Zoo Hill to catch the trail.
I like Strava's Global Heat Map and their personal heat maps. This year, I have been gradually transferring all of my GPS routes to Strava, and I will eventually have a personal heat map of mine that will be since 2006. I'm sure that will be interesting, once I post it. However, that won't include any of my multi-state tours when I was much younger. I do have those plotted on paper maps. Making this transfer will take some time because there were several years that I had more than 3,000 miles and two of those years were more than 5,000.

Doohickie, with the handful of exceptions, it has been almost 2 1/2 years since I have ridden on the streets. Those were my old standbys before the accident. Where is this pit bull on Frazier?

Just north of Seminary. I saw it before it saw me so I continued on Seminary. I have no idea if it was aggressive or not, but I try not to take chances.
As an aside, on my Night Riders ride last night, we went north on Haltom Road from 1st. We passed a home with several dogs, and one, a pit bull, got out. It just kind of trotted out to us wagging its tail and greeted us. The scariest moment was when it turned to go back into its yard and there was a truck coming on the other side of the road. I yelled, "NO NO NO!" and the dog stopped and looked at me and the truck passed safely. For a moment there I thought the dog was going to be hit.

That made me laugh too. That's a great map. I've heard that the trail on the west end of Grapevine Lake is a lot of fun.
Just out of curiosity, how many miles do you guys ride on any given ride/day or week? I'm pretty leisurely in my riding, so I don't think I'm logging near the miles that some of you guys do.

Before my accident, I rode a minimum of 3,000 per year. In 2008, I had right at 5,200 miles and in 2009, I rode nearly 6,000. In 2016, I rode about 400 miles and about 600 miles last year. To show you the difference, back when I was riding thousands of miles, my usual ride was between 30 and 60 miles with a century once a month. Now, my average rides are between 20 and 30 miles and the most I have done this year is 40 miles in one ride.

From Rosemont > West on Drew > Lubbock to Bolt to Suffolk > Winfield to Anita to South > Foster Park > Overton Park > Trinity Trails to Saunders Park/Stockyards > back down 23rd to Samuels > Bluff St > Grove St > 4th > Commerce > Main St > Magnolia > Fairmount Ave > Bowie > Willing > Ryan > Biddison and back to Rosemont!
Doohickie, do you happen to ride a white Trek? I saw a guy that I thought may have been you out on the trails.

I took an evening ride today of 25.44 miles. I rode out to the Art Cowsen Trailhead via FunkyTownTay's route through Overton Park. I returned all the way up the trail to the new river bridge next to the Miniature Train bridge and then home via Mistletoe Heights. It was kind of hot, since I started at 6 PM, so I rode slow.

No, all my bikes are old and crappy. I usually ride on Saturday mornings but didn't this morning. My wife is switching schools next fall and we had to get a bunch of her stuff out of her current classroom.

I really like that new bridge and the climb to Mistletoe Heights. It seems much easier than Zoo Hill. It will be great when they connect the trail on the east bank between that bridge and the Tilley Bridge.

Doohickie, I like the new section, also. What is nice about it, is there is no traffic. I will also be glad when they finish the trail on the east bank, so that when the opposite side is closed for Mayfest, we can just ride around it on a paved trail.
Getting back to my specific ride, when I started at 6, it was 96 degrees. When I arrived home, it had cooled down to 90. Since I am not riding much, I will admit that I am not used to the heat. The ride wasn't bad because I did not push hard. When I got down to Bellaire Dr. S., I noticed that Watercourse Drive was open into Waterside. I rode it all the way across the bridge over the oxbow of the Trinity. However, the road was blocked from the open portion of the development. At that point, I turned around and continued on to the Art Cowsen Trailhead.

This shows you how out of shape I really am - my 25 mile ride in the 90 degree heat made me really tired today. However, I said that I was going to do my best to ride three days in a row, so I will be heading out around 6 PM again. I may not ride as far this evening, but who knows?

I went out and rode 21 miles tonight. I was feeling yesterday, so I took it very slow. I went north on the trail into Rockwood Park.

I really don't either, but I came in with a less than 10 mph average. This tells me that I was really riding slow. I could also tell that I was much slower than usual by the way I was riding. I did not ride tonight because I was really tired. This shows how out of shape I am. I have been draggy all day.

Me too. Or maybe I was just hung over.

A couple of notes from last night's ride:
1. Good way to get from the Near Southside to the Trinity Trails: Pennsylvania > 12th Ave > Milstletoe Blvd > northbound Mistletoe Drive > the trail at the corner > down the hill > over the new bridge next to the Forest Park RR bridge. Portions of Pennsylvania have a bike lane; I think the western end needs one (or sharrows) as well.
2. The Trinity Park Court extension bike trail that goes west from the end of the road has now been paved in concrete from Trinity Park Court to a bit over the first bridge. Very nice.

Just a few minutes ago, I saw a young lady riding a bicycle down my street with no helmet, no front light, no rear light, and no reflectors. She had dark hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts. She was almost invisible.

Favorite bicycle route as of the moment: Hemphill's bike lanes. To me this restriping is a home run.
