I hope our city is home to more of these EV Industry-related manufacturing plants.  Fort Worth Report article republished in FWBP.

Neat! Crossposting from another thread:

I saw an article (almost 20 years ago?) about a study done on centers of excellence in an industry. I think the main focus of the underlying research was on a region in Italy that had multiple high-quality manufacturers of... tile? marble? something like that. But something that was discussed was that the concentration of expertise and talent and labor attracted additional investment, additional expertise/talent/labor (it's where you wanted to be if you wanted to work in that industry), the growth of schools/academies/etc with strong programs in the industry, etc. The growth of the pool of talent at all levels of the organization outweighed the risk of losing talent to competitors, and that movement between companies spread ideas that helped companies grow in knowledge in ways that weren't easily replicated by companies out on their own. It sounded very much like what could be seen in Silicon Valley at the time.

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about! Seems like something Texas could focus on at the state level, given that Fort Worth and even all-DFW are too small to really form a statewide pro-EV-industry policy. Belately I wonder if Austin could have helped push Rivian into Fort Worth's arms.

Crossing my fingers that with more plants like MP Materials', DFW / Texas can become an EV center of excellence.

Sounds like Rivian won't be getting the tax break in GA that they had hoped for

Should have picked Fort Worth.  As far as I can tell, have they not even broken ground on that project?  I heard there was a ton of NIMBY's opposing the project due to environmental concerns: well water contamination, light pollution, and the disruption of wildlife habitats and farmland for heavy industry

If we were picked, how do you think this would be playing out in our backyard?  I don't recall as much pushback on the Gigafactory in Austin, but I'm sure there was some.  The Springdale Green project in Austin, in fact is reclaiming an old contaminated tank farm site. https://austin.tower...office-project/

Hmmm, perhaps Fort Worth dodged a bullet on the Rivian factory.

Deliver $45,000 vehicle possibly first half of 2026

Crazy to think how much new vehicle prices have changed in the past 24-months and what they could be 24-months from now. Theres certainly been fluctuation.

Looks like the EV makers are having growing pains.
