I may have missed this along the way. Does anyone know what's going in Chadra Mezza's old location on Park Place? Looks like the space is going through a pretty extensive remodel.

I went to Poke Poke today and the guy working the register told me tomorrow is their last day. Too bad, they have good food.
Yeah. They had very weird hours tbh. I never knew what days they would be open and they would be closed while other restaurants were open. I think closing the inside and just having outdoor seating as your only option was a death nail.

Not sure if this is even a restaurant but does anyone know what they are doing to the repair shop on Hulen and Diaz? It sort of looks like it could be a small restaurant.

I used Take 5 for an oil change on a cold, rainy day a month or so ago and I was impressed. I had tried to get an inspection there before and ended up elsewhere because there was a long wait. I was in and out in about 10 minutes. It's a little more expensive than what I've paid at other shops, but the service was great.

Well that answers that. They have totally changed the exterior and added a pointy roof on the corner this week so I was curious. The garage doors are still there but I have seen lots of bars or restaurants that used to be repair shops that kept those in place.
They'd need to go before the Zoning Commission if they planned to change the use of the building especially if it involved selling alcohol. I personally was hoping for like a burger place, that seems like a quaint location and I sit there looking at it while I wait for the stop light to change after getting my Salad-and-Go.

Portillo's coming to N. Texas. I've tried it before but nothing to write home about. It does the job in a pinch but what I didn't like was the crew they brought in from (probably) Chicago to open the restaurant...they didn't act friendly at all like they had something better to do....most notably, looking at their phones, chatting with each other, yelling at each other and ignoring customers etc. They tend to build very large restaurants so it's nice not being all packed even though it can get busy.
I'm not really sure how this restaurant chain will translate in very a competitive Texas market. They have some general items like chicken or burgers that appeal universally, but the Italian beef, hot dogs and pasta dishes may not make as much sense here. Another Chicago place I can't stand is Gino's East....they put green peppers in their sauce and that bothers me from the moment I walk in there.
Don't get me wrong, some of this stuff on Portillo's menus looks really good if they take the time to do it right, I'm just not sure the appeal or quality will outweigh the level of quality and service you'll get at some of our top BBQ places, Tex-Mex or and the a cult-following places like Chick-fil-A, Rosa's or Raising Canes that seem to have the market on service and quality for the $, especially if they are serving hot dogs and cheese fries.

I'm addicted to their almond green tea. There's one under construction about a half mile from my house and I might have to take up a second job. Thankfully it's pretty cheap during their afternoon happy hour.

I've tried HTeaO once and the quality is top notch, tons of options too. I'd be curious their process for filtering water as the tea was really clean and smooth. Starbucks uses a five stage filtration process, I'd imagine they have a similar set-up.

Funny that Quince, which is known as a rooftop restaurant, settled for a patio where as several establishments are working on / have actual rooftop locations (Le Meridien, Pie Tap, Lot 12, Reata, Bird and Branch to name a few). Maybe Quince should have shopped around for a more fitting location?

Wow, Im a sucker for a rooftop patio and welcome this as their neighbor. When I was in Denton this weekend I noticed a bar in their Square with a rooftop patio. (Where appropriate) Its livens up the street scape and hopefully attracts people.Pie Tap Magnolia files HCLC review for rooftop patio:
Record HCLC-23-015:

Project Description:
Pie Tap Pizza Workshop + Bar
Rooftop Patio
Addition of a roof top patio including a bar within a shipping container and a pergola
Work Location

Sometimes Magnolia can seem dead when in fact everyone is holed away in the restaurants. Maybe no coincidence that Pie Tap is in the middle of the most lively part of Mag - Maggies, Chat Room, and Nonna.

TLA you are right about it sometimes feeling dead. I think it's because most of the parking is behind the businesses which is great but also people just don't walk here. I was out with a friend and we had a drink at the usual and then Lazy Moose and then we decided to go to Shinjuku Station and he wanted to drive there. It took some arm twisting but I finally got him to walk there which he liked but then complained the whole way back.

Some friends of mine and I ate at Beast and Co a few months ago and then I suggested we walk to the Usual. They also complained about the distance haha! I walk 4 miles every morning, its the best way to clear my head.
I looked it up on my phone, thats literally a 0.3 mile / 6 minute walk.

I go to an entertainment industry conference and expo most years and they usually feature some sort of eye-catching, novelty attraction that's the talk of the show. Dinner in the Sky was featured about 10 years ago or so and it never really took off (pun intended). I believe the only appearance it's ever made in the US was in Vegas.

I was pretty impressed with Hurtado. The sausage is probably some of the best I've had and the two sides I tried (tater tot casserole and street corn) were great. A coworker let me try the burnt ends and they were good but not quite as good as Heim's. They have a two meat platter that's not advertised in their online menu and it was a little under $20 for that and a drink. The dining room is small and it was a little cold for outdoor seating the day we went, so we had to wait a few minutes for a table to open.

Any idea if Hogan has historical context or is it just someones name?
#943

The building is named the Hogan Office Building. The link on the name is to the listing here at Architecture in Fort Worth. The name has some historical context. After McCrory's left the building, Royal Hogan purchased it and moved Hogan Office Supply into it. That's how the building has its current name. If you are wondering who Royal Hogan was, he had a famous brother, Professional Golfer Ben Hogan.

There is quite a bit of grade change between General Worth Square and the old alley behind the building. The rendering shows steps down to the counter. Also, part of the concrete wall at the perimeter of General Worth Square will have to be removed.

TLA, I have felt the park has been underutilized since it was built. Having a retail establishment open up to the square is a big plus. As for the building, all of the buildings built around 1900 are small. This building has an interesting history. You can read more about it here on the main website: https://www.fortwort...com/shelton.htm
