After reading the article, I'm happy to see my description of the Queen City Railway matched fairly closely. I didn't know they cut the tops of the conduit yokes off, though.

The tracks and cable conduit were mostly constructed when electric streetcars became practical and the owners of the franchise made the wise decision to switch to electric propulsion. It was my understanding that for many years after, cable car conduit yokes could be found under the asphalt along the line when construction was done.

Bet you didn't know Dallas almost had a cable car line.
