I like the overall plan, but I'm not crazy about the Paddock Park fountain just yet. Maybe it's just that rendering, but I'm afraid it is a little overwhelming and will draw the eye away from the courthouse.

I think it will actually draw the courthouse into the park since the courthouse may have a reflection in the water.

at this pace by 2025 the city will have spent nearly $100M between this "staircase" to the river/panther island and the hemphill-lamar connector.
it's amazing what our city can magically find money for
(remember when transit advocates were told $80M for a streetcar starter system was ludicrous?)
$40M for this park/plaza when Z-Boaz is still primarily an open field when the golf course has been closed since 2015 with the promise of a fully developed park to come? Or what the city has also done/proposed for Sycamore Creek... I'm not saying the golf courses were necessarily what should have remained, but it's utterly laughable to me how the city will close assets, like parks or public pools, with a "coming soon" promise yet never deliver while also coming up with beaucoup funds for what could easily be labeled vanity projects.
I'd love to see Heritage Park restored and reopened after it's long neglect, but this seems like gilding the lily and encrusting it with diamonds.

Having had 24 hours to digest this, I would not disapprove if the cascading water/stairs/ramps were to be ditched.
Keeping the Main Street/ Belknap/Fountain configuration would be the completion of all the sides of Courthouse Plaza; and that component of the project should go forward. It would also likely amount to a reduction in cost.

Just hitting me that I started this topic originally, and that was TWELVE YEARS AGO :0
And if the opening date is hit it'll be 16 years the park was closed. Dang.
I really hope y'all can make this happen, finally. A Halprin park is a gem that should be held on to - he was one of the best of his era.
Here in Portland we're in the tail end of a restoration of an entire multiblock Halprin design, the Portland Open Space Sequence, comprised of the Source Fountain, the Lovejoy Fountain Park, the Keller Fountain Park, Pettygrove Park, and associated design bits linking the sequence. It's a beautiful piece of design and downtown PDX would be poorer if it was gone. I so hope Heritage Park can make a comeback.
PDX city gov's page: https://www.portland.../article/688089
Halprin page (somewhat out-of-date as it was written before the restoration project): https://tclf.org/sit...y/portland.html
EDIT: if curious, the restoration project cost about $4 million, so definitely not on the same scale. All that needed to happen was restoring all the works in place. None had decayed so much, and there was no need to do any larger rearranging of streets/sidewalks/etc. around them.

It's downtown, so there are plenty of garages (and sadly since this is still a Sunbelt city, surface lots) nearby.

Yes sir, that is the soooo true.
For a moment, I even thought that the ramp is a nod towards foot traffic, but having to cross both Weatherford and Belknap Streets will be a challenge unless both are calmed down to a degree.

This picture looks like they are planning some work to the eastern side of the bridge as well. Looks like there are criss-crossing paths reminiscent of the ones on the western side

Does anyone know what is happening with the Heritage Park Renovation project? I have seen plan and ideas from before, but was curious what is happening and who is doing it.

Thank you.
No apologies necessary. It was kind of in a weird spot where it would have been hard to find.

The Request for Qualifications for Design and Engineering Services for this project came out this morning. https://www.dfwi.org...5-27-2final.pdf. Recapturing this area will be wonderful for Fort Worth. Hopefully the decision makers are open to considering new ideas and teams and not just picking up where it was left. I like what has been done so far, but I have higher expectations for what this should be given the significance of the space and those originally behind it (Ruth Carter Stevenson, Streams and Valleys). It may just be the drawings, but Paddock looks like a lot of brick and an water feature that is too big. This area needs organization; a plaza that connects downtown and the courthouse to the river and the north, a restoration of Heritage Park that brings Halprin's work back to life and showcases what was put in place and an elegant pedestrian connection to the river that is beautiful and functional, does not try to overpower the whole project. Just my thoughts.

I attended the virtual public meeting and it was pretty interesting. Not much different from what we've discussed on here but they just went into some final design proposals and asked for input from the public to see what things were important. They are shooting for a 2024 date to be done with it. The opening would coincide with FW's 175th birthday.

"Due to the fast pace of the park improvement project..."
Did they throw that in there to make a funny or just to see if everyone was really paying attention? George W. Bush was president when the park was last open. I don't think there's any fast pace happening.

I'm glad to see progress for the project, but I think it is a little odd it took decades and scoping the project up 8x as expensive to gain attention and funding compared to just restoring the core park.
Perhaps we should be thinking bigger about other neglected projects in the city.

I look forward to it being restored so the city can let it fall so badly into disrepair that it again requires millions of dollars of work in a few decades.
(Sorry if that's negative, but too little is made of the city's tendency to neglect assets to the point that they have to be bailed out by the public sector.)
