This Panther Island master plan is being touted as the new San Antonio Riverwalk. We shall see, but it sounds exciting, as the Channel 5 report suggests.

"Announcement on construction in 45-60 days" is the exciting part.
I thought all the zoning was alrady there? Is this council vote just making it formal?

Hmm, this sounds interesting. Fromt the City Plan commission
UDC-16-28 1301 North Park Drive Panther Island Owner/Agent: Cargill/Bennett Benner Partners Request a recommendation for approval of a variance from the height requirement
Not on Panther ISland itself but falls under the district's design area.

spit-balling here, but I wonder if it'd even be possible to convert the old TXU electrical plant across from Panther Island Brewing into a movie theater.
That seems like it could eventually be a cool location for an Alamo Drafthouse. the inside could have a restaurant or bar that overlooks the river and downtown skyline, not to mention an outdoor patio as well.
I know the Coyote Drive-In is right there too, but if I recall that was just a "temporary" ground lease until the project is really up and running and the land can be redeveloped.
I think it is an idea that is worth pursuing.

Great news! I would like to see at least two office towers, a residential tower, an apartment complex or two, a high-rise hotel, and a variety of retail in an urban village environment.

Something to make the Bass family jealous . . .

The other two bridges at North Main and Henderson streets and Encore Panther Island are expected to open before the end of the year. After that, development will move east to the lot across the street, where there has been strong interest for a hotel.

Yeah I think North Main will open really soon. They have removed some barricades on the northern side and they have painted striping up to the bridge as well. Also many of the street lights have been installed and the railing for the pedestrian portion is also in place. They are still working on the brickwork for the sidewalks leading up to the bridge and a portion of concrete is needed to finish the connection to the southern ramp.

...wait, is that the lot that's underneath some of the electric wiring?

Interesting to note that the BOKA Powell lookbook that Nixitope post a little bit back was from the folks putting this land up for sale. Gives a good idea of where most of it is and what could feasibly go on it. Source on page 144-145.

I went into the TRVA location with the model last week just to take another look at the details and on the video they have playing about the progress they showed that they Oncor Electrical yard there as well as all the heavy duty lines are being removed from Panther Island.

Well that's good to know. Makes my Light Rail project more realistic... eh, in a way.

I've been curious to see what the exact lots were.
It's interesting that 3 of them appear "inside" the levee system and overlap with the Trinity Trails. I wonder what that means about the development potential of the sites and how that would/could/will disrupt the trail system

I just heard that one idea for Panther Island is to build a casino there. Obviously this would only be if the push to legalize casinos in Texas is successful, but it's an interesting thought. The person who told me this said that the "moat" around Panther Island would be a demarcation of the new casino district.
I suspect it's the largest "downtown" parcel (or near-downtown) available in any Texas city so it make sense. It would span the Downtown-Stockyards void.

Very interesting, have to do some major digging into this. Have wondered when someone would finally take the leap and begin marketing some of the property.

There's a paywall.
But my question is, this was supposed to be more a "connector" to the Northside from Downtown, right?

Guess I missed this a week or so back. IF think its a bit odd to be spending more $$ for more studies since it was master-planned to begin with but will be interesting to see what differences there are and what they come up with!
