All of the local news media have announced that The Ballpark in Arlington is going to be renamed "Ameriquest Field in Arlington". Here we go with more commercialism.

In a year it will be known as "Ameriquest Field" to all but the people of Arlington who want to maintain a delusional state about what their money got them, and perhaps even to them, too.

"The Ballpark in Arlington" kept its name complete because the word "ballpark" is generic enough to require "Arlington" in the title. But since there is only one "Ameriquest Field" the use of "Arlington" in the title is redundant and superfluous.

It's as bad as using "redundant" and "superfluous" together to describe something. :?:

They should have worded that properly. "Ameriquest Field" didn't open in 1994; The Ballpark in Arlington opened in 1994. What is this, 1984, where if something seems inconsistent, they just revise the past?

YES! Integrity would be completely out of place in this entire matter!
:roflol:

For example, deeper into the website one can read (I added some bold for emphasis):

Brief History
The agreement between the Rangers and the City of Arlington, Texas to build a new ballpark was announced on October 24, 1990. Actual construction began on April 24, 1992. The ballpark was named on September 28, 1993. The first game was an exhibition contest between the Rangers and New York Mets on April 1, 1994...

I figure one of their website goons was told to go through the website and change all instances of "The Ballpark in Arlington" to "Ameriquest Field in Arlington".

They probably did some sort of search-and-replace, changing every single instance even if it is not historically accurate.

That was my first impression when I read the web site.

I don't really care about corporate sponsors on sports facilities, it's just like commercials, ads on buses, billboards; it's all just advertisement. But I don't like the name, it just doesn't flow. It would sound better if it was just "Ameriquest Field" or if they left it the way it is, but I don't really go to baseball games so I guess it won't impact my life that much :?:

I agree. Such things are a win-win situation for everyone involved. The stadium is able to generate additional revenue and the sponsor gets name recognition and presumably positive PR. As for it being commercialism - well, I am perfectly fine with that. Commerce is a wonderful and benevolent thing. Look at the parts of the world that are not very commercialized and ask yourself if you would like to thusly lower your standard of living and live under such conditions.

But I don't like the name, it just doesn't flow. It would sound better if it was just "Ameriquest Field" or if they left it the way it is

Since that stadium was paid for by Arlington taxpayers, it wouldn't surprise me if there is some sort of contractual agreement that the word "Arlington" must appear in any name. One certainly can't blame the City of Arlington if it attached such strings to the deal.

The only thing that I don't like about naming rights is the fact that, at some point, the contract expires making a name change likely every so many years. When memorable events take place at such facilities, people associate the location with the name - and it is always kind of sad when a name that has almost become an institution is suddenly done away with.

5 years from now, no one will think anything about it or even really remember we hated the change.

I think we could learn something from the citizens of Arlington. People know about Arlington because of the Texas Rangers and The Ballpark in Arlington.

Changing the name to Ameriquest Field in Arlington is still a winning proposition for Arlington.

Too bad we couldn't name our speedway "Fort Worth Motorspeedway." I want a tax refund.

Ameriquest is a home mortgage loan company that purchased the naming rights to the stadium where the Rangers play. It was known as "The Ballpark in Arlington" before the Ameriquest name was placed on the field last year.
