I came across a mention of a "unique" building in Des Moines with various claims of being first in this or that category and was interested enough to do a little checking. Mass Timber Building is a fairly new return to an old construction technique, the largest example of this being in Minneapolis:

Pretty cool stuff, and it turns out the Des Moines building was the first Dowel Laminated Timber building, in which the wood panels are held together with wooden rods rather than steel, etc.

High-rise inherently green construction?

Wooden construction, meanwhile, results in fewer carbon emissions and the wood itself has absorbed CO2 prior to being harvested.

That's one way to justify cutting down trees, eh?
