A friend who lives near there said there are several new places opening soon, maybe not so much loss as turnover.

Jon's Subs on West 7th and Lamar has a notice on its front door saying they have been locked out for failure to pay rent.  Must have just happened because there were full sandwich trays in their refrigerated case.  

 

Not really surprised.  It never looked very crowded when I walked by.  The time we went, the sub bread fell apart as we were eating our sandwiches.  I'm guessing inferior bread in a sub shop is not a helpful element of the business model.  

 

I don't know what this means, but the "For Lease" signs are down in the Jon's Subs space and the lights were on.  Didn't see anyone in there today, though.

 

Jon’s Subs reopens April 15th.  I hope they do well!

I tried the Ramen place there before their grand opening a couple of weeks back... it was good.  It's byob.

Funky Picnic off South Main announced they are closing April 27th. Sad to see them go. With the two new apartments and new hotel so close, I hope another restaurant will take over the spot shortly. Funky Picnic was certainly a trailblazer for this restored area.

My last time to eat there was probably around 8 years ago and, while the food was good, it had declined a lot.  There's still a Yucatan on the riverwalk at Bricktown in OKC.  Not sure how closely related it is to the original, but the menu is at least similar.

Totally agree.  I think that places like this usually fail because they don't have repeat customers.  I went twice and thought it was average at best and didn't have me hankering for more.

I know they changed their menu within the last few years. There was an article IIRC the new chef threw shade at the old menu. I liked the older menu better.

Running a restaurant and brewery seems tough and expensive. Maybe they crawled so a new spot could run. Why not a brew pub that serves Hopfusions beer. Also, they were competing with Bearded Lady in similar food and on beer with Hopfusion. That’s a tough spot to be in.

If this spot had opened sooner, would have been nice to see The Tropic Lady here.

I bet it is just a matter of time before we start seeing Tim Horton's around Tarrant County.  Appear to be in Houston already.

They seem to be the next fad chain to push a big expansion in this area.  I have a friend that's from Canada that is ecstatic about them coming to Texas.  We had some of their doughnuts in Atlanta earlier this year and they were good.  Reminded me of Dunkin.

Yes, very similar to Dunkin, I think with a broader food menu (I haven't compared lately).  They've been established in Buffalo for years so I've been there a few times; in fact I almost think of them as a "back home" brand.  The owned by the company that also owns Burger King, Firehouse Subs and Popeyes, so corporate-wise I don't think Texas is a wilderness to them.
