Not sure an exact location, somewhere in "uptown", a small, 4 story hotel looks to be heading that direction. 100 rooms. The press mentions the hotels have 24/7 coffee bars, potentially bringing a much needed commercial gathering space to the area.

Going off TAD, based off locations based on the former owner, I'd guess one of two locations, one immediatly south of Pioneers Rest along Gounah, or just north of the existing Towneplace along Peach. Hard to know as the firm owns a LOT of land in the area.

I never would have expected a clunky Flash driven site.

According to DDRB agenda, a 4 story hotel is proposed at 320 Samuels, presumably this is it. That's the lot just north if Townplace.

I saw the DDRB agenda when it came out this afternoon.  I did not put two and two together until you did.

Interesting, we took a look at that site for a Marriott or Hilton but both rejected it. It's an interesting location and site, small and parking will be a pain, may require structured, if I remember it is like 1.48 acres and has some serious set backs which reduces useable to about 1.2 acres at best. I typically use 300-350 SF per parking space to accommodate the space and drives for a high level look at land which chews up at best about 30k sf and only leaves abut 25k SF for the building and green areas. The biggest issue we saw seemed to be it is a total pain to get to!

I can't get past the paywall, but the FWST is reporting this hotel was approved by Fort Worth's high sparrow tribunal on architecture :o and will break ground soon.

The groups that approved the hotel are Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. and the Downtown Design Review Board.  Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. is a 501 ©(6) non-profit membership organization engaged in a wide range of downtown development and management activities.  You can learn more about them on their website.

The Downtown Design Review Board is a City of Fort Worth Board that reviews all projects that fall under the Downtown Design Guidelines.

This is considered to be a Downtown project and as downtown projects go, this one looks easily acceptable IMO.  And it is bound on either side by Town Place Suites and corporate housing.  It really doesn't vary much from what already exists there today.

I haven't posted in a long time, but this caught my eye. That is NOT "corporate housing" but a regular apartment complex, Trinity Urban District. I suspect this is the result of sloppy reporting by the S-T, because if you look at Google Maps it shows "Smallwood Corporate Housing" instead of the apartment name.

Few residents at these large apt complexes realize that a significant percentage of the units are leased to companies like Smallwood, who then rent them out as temporary housing. For a while they were even doing very short term rentals, a day or a week like a hotel or AirBnB, but someone complained that such short-term rentals are a violation of city code. Smallwood finally changed their T&C to require 30+ day stays.

At these Trinity Urban complexes (Bluff and District), 20% or more of the units are these short-term rentals. I wonder if this is true at similar complexes around downtown, and how much these rentals are driving the apt construction?

Essentially, Avid Hotel is not radically different from the its immediate neighbors; in actually is an improvement over the cookie cutter Town Place Suites.

And it is covering up an empty lot as well which is also a plus

Not sure if this is moving forward or not but I drove by this lot and there are excavators and earthmovers on site clearing the land.

Huh. Biked past this construction site this week and took a picture. It seems a bit overgrown. Is this project stalled?

That's never a good sign when you drive by a jobsite and the grass has started growing up into the project (in November too) and the silt fence has blown over.

I don't think it's stalled...  I think it was previously but I drove past about 2 weeks ago and all they had at that time were the steel supports.  There was no wood framing at all so they have made a lot of progress since then.

That's good! Maybe they're just taking it slow; wonder when this project is supposed to be finished.

I choose to believe that my inquiry here five months ago shamed them into kicking development into a higher gear. Total victory for the FWA forums. B)

I stayed one night in an Avid recently. Room was as clean and nice as any of the affordable, short stay chains.

I wonder if they are still going to include the full service coffeeshop that was discussed early on in the planning stage

Do we know the answer to this question? AndyN, I think this would be relevant to your possible coffeeshop idea further up Samuels.
