I've noticed this week that there is blackout fencing in front of the Rodeo Steakhouse (1309 Calhoun) and some work is going on inside.  The back doors have been open and there is a large dumpster nearby.  Anyone know what the space will become?

I don't know what the space will become, but I'm hoping it will be a full-scale restaurant (i.e., not a Subway-style deli) again.  If so, I believe it would be the closest such restaurant to ITC, which would benefit Amtrak de-boarding tourists.

I never understood why it's stayed closed for so long. Near the edge of downtown but I think there's enough close by to make it a viable eatery.

I would assume the space needs a lot of work and an investor with deep pockets.  The last time I ate at Rodeo Steakhouse (probably 1999 or so), it looked like it had seen better days.  Not terrible, but definitely aged.  I can imagine how it looks after being vacant for more than a decade.

A little Google sleuthing on the owner tells me it's likely to continue to be restaurant space.

I wouldn't think it would be a subway, since there actually is one at the Intermodal.  It is a bit off the beaten path, hidden behind the convention center, but I would think that Intermodal folks, UTA folks and law school folks would love a restaurant that close to them.

I can think of four but I know there are more. Martin House, Rahr, Panther Island, and HopFusion. Plus I think there's one further north (forget the name). And.... whatever the 6th one is that you know about. (Does Chimera count?)

Martin House backs up to the Trinity Trail where 4th crosses it.  It's mentioned in the comment about Top Golf in the Next Area of Fort Worth to Revitalize thread; it's in that section outlined in red on the map (north of E 4th, east of the Trinity) in that thread.

Curious how the East 4th street area will be in the coming years,. If the Top Golf goes with this location it'd could be a big springboard. The area has great access to downtown and the upcoming RAD area, directly on multiple highways, and has the river as its anchor, and the Trinity has been a hot place to develop around lately. The East side already has Martin House as an anchor, but the west side is almost completely undeveloped. The biggest issue for the west side is that it is trapped on 2 sides by large highways, and there are 3 gas pads within the area.

one more try:

1. Rahr

2.  Martin House

3.  Community

4.  Panther Island

5.  Hop Fusion

6.  Chim... (on magnolia)  - I'm counting it b/c they call themselves a brewery.

I think Downtown Keller has one - that's about 100 meters from Fort Worth.

And Revolver is in Granbury.  Seems to be really getting some traction.

I hope these guys are making decent money so its sustainable.  Certainly appreciate having them all in town.

There's been a lot of progress at the old steakhouse over the late summer and info the fall - the Acre Distilling signs are up now:

They have a Facebook page too: https://www.facebook...eacredistillery

It will be interesting to see how this works out.

I must go by and check it out.  I worked at the Keg when it first opened in 1974 until I graduated from TCU.  I loved that Teriyaki Steak.

I've had the chance to peek in the back of the Acre Distillery and see all the shiny new equipment (which looks very impressive).

Seems it is now open: http://www.fwtx.com/...virtue-and-vice

A group of us lawyers had some drinks at this establishment just before Christmas (it's next door to the bar association offices).  Inside is a glassed-in distillery operation that you can observe while you're sitting at bar or table in the drinking area.  The alcoholic beverages are fabulous, but quite stiff, as you can imagine for a distillery.  It's a sports bar but there was no food service when I was there, but that may have changed.
