Great news!  Thawing out today and roads are greatly improved.

For those who care...once again, the national news media focused on Dallas, with hardly a mention of our ice storm in Fort Worth.  I know it's because the news affiliates are all based in Dallas.  But it really gets irritating sometimes to know Fort Worth gets little attention unless a major tragedy occurs (like it did on the I-35 Express lane two years ago).

The Mullet, if that is what it comes to be known as, would be a welcome addition to the modern cosmopolitan look of West Seventh and of the city as a whole.

In Topic: T&P Warehouse Redevelopment

We've been discussing this for decades now.  The building has been unoccupied since the haunted house and paint ball days of what, the 1980s?  Many Fort Worthian adults around that time are now either on social security or in the grave.  The city doesn't know what to do about a barely rehabilitated structure that does have historical WPA-era value.  The owner appears intractable about re-development.  If it was merely a small structure along Lancaster we could ignore it, but it has an imposing presence on the southside of downtown.  Maybe by the year 2050 something will be done with it.

Of course, the game turned out to be very lopsided in Georgia's favor and TCU fans came away disappointed if not depressed.  But TCU got to a national championship game and that is no small achievement when you consider how biased the ranking system is in my opinion.  Hooray, Horned Frogs!  And I'm glad Fort Worth was in the national sports spotlight for at least a short time, and the country forgot the Dallas Cowboys at least for a day.

In Topic: New Year's Eve

This was my first New Year's Eve celebration at Sundance Square.  A friend and I joined the crowd of revelers a few feet in front of a really loud band.  For a while the crowd had a small open circle devoted to wild dancing.  But I think the SS security people closed it off after it looked like it was getting a little out of hand.  There were some side shows like two cowboys with lassos, a guy juggling led-lighted wands, and an Uncle Sam-type on stilts.

All in all, a fun and exciting event, especially the fireworks show that began at the stroke of midnight when the 2023 clock replaced the word "TCU" at the top of the building.

It's too bad we hardly ever get snow this time of year.  But the fake snowflakes did add to the festive occasion.
