Just south (for several blocks) of the Ellis Pecan building on North Main street all the existing buildings have been razed to the ground. Does anyone know what is going on here?

There is already a thread on this. However, I will answer the question. They are demolishing those buildings for the Trinity River Diversion Channel as a part of the Trinity Uptown Project.

Yep. The river will run through it. The portion that loops down to downtown will be set up like the Riverwalk in San Antonio. The diversion channel will have flood gates that will keep the water from flooding the downtown loop when the river rises.
