I am trying to locate some of the older fire stations. Here's the ones I'm having the hardest time locating and an approximate location:

4 - Somewhere along Wichita.
15 - South of Northside High School. Craftsman house style.
17 - Southside somewhere. Craftsman house style.
19 - Around Eagle Dr. Craftsman house style.
22 - Was there one prior to the current station on Wilbarger?
23 - Not the old one on Cherry Ln/W Elizabeth. Supposedly one was further to the east around Como somewhere.
24 - Church St west of the current station.
25 - North of E. Long somewhere

Thanks for your help.

In the 60's, #24 was in the old house on the SW corner of Church & Erie at 3100 Erie St. The house is still there but I don't know if the large building that was added in back is. If you look on the 1970 view on Historic Aerials, you can see the structures and that was the only thing on that whole block. It was no longer a fire station then, having moved around '68. There was another station after that one, located in back of the current station. It fronted Handley Dr. at Church.

#4 is shown at 4700 Wichita in the '58 & '69 City Directories, but not in the '47.

#19 is shown at 1100 Eagle in the '58 & '69 City Directories, but not in the '47.

Contact Sam Grief, who was just promoted to
FWFD Deputy Chief (he's on Face Book). I think he started his
Fire Dept. career at #24. His son works there now.

He can probably update you on all these stations.

Thanks Phil. I located them on satellite photos. It appears old 19's is a parking lot now. 24's really does look more like a house than a fire station. I moved to Handley in '85 and remember the trucks running out of the 24's on Handley Dr.

Since my first post I also located old 25's at 2909 Schwartz. Similar style to 4's on Wichita.

I talked to a FF today who grew up on the Westside and he remembers one around 6300 Camp Bowie at Fairfield in the 60s. He doesn't remember which one it was though.

Here's Fire Station No. 17, located on the northwest corner of Ryan Avenue and West Butler Street. The address is 3644 Ryan Avenue. The fire station moved down to Felix Street, west of I-35W in the 1960's and shortly thereafter, Red Gauntt purchased the old fire station and converted it to his electric company. Please note the sign. That has been there since they opened and the phone prefix is "WA", instead of "92". The porch has been enclosed, the overhead door has been replaced with wood and a window, and the entire building has been painted. This photograph was taken this morning.

I guess we can ID the old fire stations by the emergency warning sirens in the back yard! Good find John.

When the sirens were upgraded, a new one was placed in Rosemont Park, 5 blocks south and one block west. This siren no longer functions.

late 1800s Central Fire Station was on Throckmorton just north of the present Municipal COurt Building. I have some pictures of it that I'll dig up and post. Sta. 2 is at Texas and Cherry St. downtown, I thinks that's 2. You can find photos of the current fire stations at FW Fire Department

I noticed that about old Station 6 on Fulton. They have one like that too. Guess the next time I'm up on the North Side looking for 15's I'll keep my eye open for that.

Speaking of sirens, I remember as a kid an odd looking one near East Handley Elementary. It had a longer oval horn on top and a smaller round horn on the bottom. A lot more character than the new ones they're putting up.

Phil, the fire station really wasn't a good find. I grew up and still live close by Fire Station 17. I've always known where it was located. Since I took the picture, I have added Gauntt Electric Co. to the Fort Worth Architecture web site.

You'll need to post them to a hosting site and link to it.  Not my thing, but there are some experts here.  Might want to PM John Roberts.

Probably the easiest site to use is imgur. It does not require and account and even formats forums for you. http://imgur.com/

The upload button is near the top.

The city pulled the sale of Fire Station No 12 at 2410 Prospect on the North Side, after the highest bid received failed to meet the minimum bid requirement.  The Fort Worth Report has the story.

I remember the Fire Station at Meadowbrook Drive and Oakland, we use to go buy trash bags there when I was little. I think one of my elementary school teachers took us on a field trip there once too. Last time I saw the building it was a wedding chapel or an art studio or something.

It's interesting to see how wide the street has become.  There appears to be 4 sections to the sidewalk running from the porch to the street in the old photo, but only 2 in the current one.

Nitixope, I think the curb is very close to where it was in the historic photo.  Back then, a sidewalk did not exist on the street.  When you back away for the parkway, then add the sidewalk, the two sections are left from there to the walk that runs next to the porch.  The walk does curve some toward the street to avoid running into the traffic light pole at the intersection.

Looking at it again, I think you are correct.  The sidewalk cutting through really visually shortens the apparent distance between the house and the street to me.

Very cool...the building looks like it's held up well. I see they had to widen the garage bay door to accommodate the more modern Firetrucks. I remember seeing the big American/LaFrance truck in there when you would drive by, looked almost as big as the building.

Apparently, the city would sponsor Halloween parties at many of the fire halls back in the 70's.  Meadowbrook was Fire Hall #20 shown here:
