One of my favorite buildings in Fort Worth is the Greenwood Mausoleum. To me it is a striking building, and exactly what a mausoleum should be. Does anyone have any history of the building and who designed it? I also wonder if there are any good pictures of the building, inside and outside.

I don't know who designed it, but the newer section on the west end is very nice, I really like the floor with the inlay of an Eagle like the Presidential seal type.

Dustin the Greenwood Mausoleum is a striking structure. It was built in 1961 and won some recognition from the Texas Society of Architects (John R would know more about this)

Here is a link to the architect

Texas Architect Magazine has an article with a couple of good stories of Harris mixed in. As a Texas Alum he is still some what of a legend in the school.

I would just add that all of Greenwood Cemetery is really beautiful. Just reading the names on the striking memorials is an interesting romp through the history of Fort Worth - on top of being dignified, peaceful, and worth a visit...

I agree. With all the history and downtown Fort Worth in the background, I will make it my last stop. The place always overwhelms me when I attend services there or visit the family gravesites.

I admit that I've always noticed but never seen this building up close but paid a visit recently and just found it to be incredible. Really a gem. Some interesting drawings and photos of the building can be found here . It won the Texas Society of Architects Award of Honor for Distinguished Architecture in 1961. Harwell Hamilton Harris was the architect, since that appears to have been lost to dead links in above posts.

I find it interesting that JST Architects specializes in design services for the death care industry.  That is certainly a uniquely niche market but one that is often overlooked and underappreciated side of architecture.
