Fort Worth will be one of three cities awarded an EPA grant for cleanup of brown fields. This is really good news!

You can read the story below. https://fortworth.cu...et-grain-silos/

Hmm, not too many specifics on what the money will be used for. Are the silos being torn down?

I agree, looks like cleanup in the hopes that the land might be used for development. I dont think the silos would be torn down, it may be cool to repurpose them.

The grain elevators have become an extreme eyesore and health hazard.  Considering the deaths that have occurred inside, it is probably a good thing.  However, this is going to be the loss of a landmark on the City's Southside.  You can see these elevators from a great distance and they are the second tallest structure outside of Downtown.  Since the finish floor elevation is much higher above sea level than Will Rogers, the top of the structure is actually much higher than the top of the Pioneer Tower.  This structure certainly has a commanding presence along Hemphill Street and in the surrounding neighborhoods.  It will also be interesting to see the method of demolition.  The last elevators were demolished in the late 1980s, and it took weeks to bring them down.

The new apartments have already started construction nearby, so that does make sense.

According to the Fort Worth Report, the first razing permit has been approved.  Below is a link to the story:

The real eyesores are the ones on Main but I guess they are much larger and harder to tear down, also being next to an active railroad yard probably limits their redevelopment potential.
