Seems odd... according to the Stockyards they're already open but they're already renovating the store?

Correct, I read on google maps review the owner had apologized for the renovation but to check back soon.  Sounds like they may have some HVAC issues to resolve too.

Reviewer: "They're closing shop for a bit for renovations so a huge sale...but no a/c. It was kinda hot but well worth it for the sale prices! The sales clerk was just the sweetest person and so accommodating!"

Response from the owner a day ago...
"We love our employees! So glad you had a good experience! AC is coming ASAP and we cannot WAIT!! Come back and see us after the renovation!"

Sounds like the owners probably have a bone to pick with an AC contractor and/or landlord.

Wow, from 3 million visitors per year to 8 million.  That's a huge increase, especially coming out of the pandemic I wouldn't have expected over a two-fold increase.

I had sort of lost track of the plans for the Cowtown Coliseum too.

Whenever I have guests in from out-of-town, we usually bypass downtown and go straight to the stockyards or they might have me drive through downtown to take a look, but there's really no reason they want to stop, park or walk around when I ask them about it.  They always seem far more interested in what's happening in the stockyards and want to park, walk around, grab a bite to eat, visit some shops, see the cattle run etc.

We were talking at the forum lunch in May about how Tannahill's has already started a pretty steady social media and radio advertising effort.

Those buildings are just awesome.  Had no idea they had such cool spaces and materials until the mule barn project happened.  Worth repeating:  am so impressed by what the development team has created in the Stockyards recently.

I was going to say that you can't beat the height achieved under the clerestory windows at the Mule Barns.  I was going to post some photographs from my tour of the building, but Tannahill's website has some great interior photographs.

As for Billy Bob's, this is a renovation that probably should have been done years ago.

Yes it should have but then again why would they have... They believed that they were the Big Dogs and the only show in the Stockyards so they did not need to up their game.  That is changing with Mule Alley.

Here's the most important rendering, I had to screen grab it.  At first, I thought to the left was box seating off in the distance but it seemed way out of scale.  Turns out when I zoomed in, that's a bar and those are bottles of liquor not people watching a concert.

At least we know the food will be outstanding at Tannahills. What kind of food does the competition serve at Billy Bobs? For some reason I was thinking they served hot dogs and nachos.

It does appear that there is a lot more than hot dogs and nachos on their menu!  To be honest with you, it has been years since I have eaten at Billy Bob's.

I've had their catering and it was great.  They may not be on the same tier as Tannahill's, but they aren't serving concession stand food.

The remodeling at Billy Bob's has hit all of the media outlets and I love how all of the media has talked about the removal of the "posts" that block the view of the stage.  I believe the reference of the posts has come directly from Billy Bob's press release on the remodeling.  The area above the stage is also going to be raised to increase the sight lines, as well.  While the remodeling is going on, Billy Bob's will remain open.  I wish everyone would refer to the items being removed as columns, because that is what they are.  I have written this in haste, so please excuse my grammar.

I was suprised to see a custom home builder as the licensed professional doing the work:

Yes, I'm surprised to see a custom home builder doing the work, as well.  For something like this, I would think that there would be a licensed structural engineer being the professional.  In any case where you are removing and replacing a building's structure, I would want to have a structural engineer sign and seal the drawings.

That lot is squeezed between Marine Creek and NE23rd directly across the creek from the Hotel Drover.

The site certainly has BIG potential, it'll be interesting to watch to see what "2SP Partners" has in the work.

according to TAD it seems they own 3 adjacent lots here.

It appears this is the structure that is planned to be demolished.  It is not historic.  It was built between 2007 and 2013, according to Google Street View.

I would imagine getting rid of it provides a better throughway for delivery trucks for events.  I recall parking along there not too long ago maybe shortly before it was built.

WFAA reporting on the mobility study in and around the Stockyards: https://www.nbcdfw.c...kyards/3076853/

Some interesting ideas, including making E. Exchange ped-only during weekends.

I've always found many of the streets surrounding the area, including Packers, 23rd, and Ellis, offer great options for getting around. Main often is troublesome, especially when drivers going southbound attempt to make a left turn onto E. Exchange.

Parking will be interesting to see how they address that.

I also have my "backroads" way of navigating through the Stockyards.  I have also never really had a problem parking.  I also have my "ways" to navigate that issue. I have found that the easiest way to get around is to ride my bicycle and then stay off of Exchange.

making E Exchange ped-only, if even for weekends would be a HUGE improvement.

I'd advocate for even more ped-only hours, but it'd be a fair first step.

Lay out a bunch of western gear sculptures as though an enormous cowboy had passed away under the stockyards centuries ago: here the spurs, 100 yards up a huge belt buckle and a six shooter, and 200 yards up a thousand-gallon hat.
