Austin, the fencing was actually up by Tuesday.  I had to go to the Tarrant County Courthouse twice this week for work, so I headed back to the office on Forest Park and I saw the fencing.

A food hall is a bad idea.  With the exception of Legacy West in Plano and the one in downtown Dallas, most food halls around DFW have failed or are failing (Grapevine).

There's a weird line between "food hall" and "cafeteria" and "food court". The cafeteria at Cook Children's Hospital, for example, is great for employees and hospital guests, but I even stopped in fairly often when I lived nearby. Food courts at malls seem to do ok, as do some corporate cafeterias at office buildings around town.

That's so true.  I always think "food hall" implies trendy, upscale and expensive.  But the the concept differs little than a food court, other than a bar thrown in for good measure.

Harvest Hall in Grapevine is beautiful. I've been there several times and it's been never very busy, plus it's outrageously expensive!

. . . that's news to me, because every time I've been, it's been either packed or pretty full.

Then we've obviously gone at different times.  But the proof will be in a few years when eateries in the Grapevine food hall start closing and/or swapping out concepts...you know like most every other food hall around here has.  Because on paper, Crocket Row should have been a success.  And it did look like a success in the beginning, until it  wasn't.  Food Halls here have been a bumpy road and why you would try one in a city hall is silly imo.  But chances are  it will just be a food court/cafeteria concept and the "food hall" term is being used loosely.  I hope so.

After many months of not posting DDRB meeting videos for the public to view, they are posting them online!  The first part of the 9/1/22 meeting has some staff and board introductions and they covered the DDRB staff transition plan to fill the positions for Sr. Planner and Planning Manager.  They also covered the new city hall council chambers project in this meeting:

Part of the problem for Crockett Row Food Hall is that it didn't serve a dense employment or shopping center where people need to take lunch breaks.

Pretty much everyone in the West 7th area (during daytime hours) is there to eat at a sit-down restaurant. People at sit-down restaurants don't take lunch breaks at food halls.

So, I think a food hall at City Hall will be more successful. That said, I'd prefer a food hall closer to the heart of downtown (Sundance Square / Convention Center area).

Hopefully, food at Fort Worth's food hall won't be as pricey as food at Grapevine's Harvest Hall.

I almost changed the Pier 1 listing on the main website this weekend, but I decided to hold off.  I guess I should make the change before Thursday's groundbreaking now.  I will call it the "Future City Hall" until it is finished and we get a new name for the old City Hall.
