I've noticed that work on the site has been picking up over the last couple of weeks.

If you have been driving by lately, I'm sure you have noticed that the east end brick wall of the former shed has been stabilized and braced.  On driving by today, I noticed that the remainder of the burned out shed structure has been demolished, leaving only the decorative brick wall standing.  Also, the area of the former W. El Paso St. has been dug up and removed.

I noticed the wall bracing last week.  There's been a lot of work on the west end of the site over the last couple of weeks.

Several columns in place now. The Vickery development visible in the midground.

Viewed from overhead, it appears a lot more space for building than I thought previously.  And, what I didn't notice before is the curving road on the north side of the tract for easier access.

At one time, there was another building to the west of the Public Market on the same block.  Quite some time back, I found out that it was under the same ownership and I thought I had stated here on the forum that there was quite a bit of space to build something to the west of the building.

The curving road is a result of the freeway expansion service road.  The former city street right-of-way is directly in front of the Public Market and also runs beside the old Dr Pepper plant.

With this thing and the new apartments off Vickery, there's going to be a lot coming right up to the highway right there.

Are you suggesting the potential for traffic congestion at this location?

Every time I pass this project on the way to my office in southwest downtown I am heartened by the fact that this formerly dismal-looking location is going to change its appearance for the better.

100% agree with that

The developer's social media team post multiple times per week on Instagram. You can find them at "thepublicmarketfw". The level of care and thought they are putting into the project are clear.

Today while driving by this site I realized just how close to the highway the building will be. With this and the mixed use building going up south of 30, this stretch will look very different soon.

They are also doing some interior work on the  building across the street which I sometimes refer to as the "mini" public market.  I wonder will eventually end up there.  Hopefully something that compliments the PM Bldg.

The building across the street, which is the old Dr Pepper plant, is in need of rehabilitation.  It is going to become the Fort Worth Birthing and Wellness Center.

Good pic. I see it everytime I get on 30 from 8th or Henderson. I wonder how well soundproofing can be made for apartments this close to the highway.

I'm sure there would be some soundproofing but there will be highway noise.  After a while you acclimate and the sound just blends in and you stop noticing it for the most part.

My home abuts the I-30 access road between Hulen and Merrick. 90% of the noise is tire friction noise which eventually you can tune out. The REAL sound pollution comes from vehicles whose drivers feel the need to REEEEV their engines SO LOUD as they accelerate. That you can never get used to and it's something that seems to occur a few times each hour between 8am-10pm each day.

Thankfully it rarely happens overnight.

It's because all the night time racing takes place on I-20, a block south from me.  :glare:
