Some notes from the Panther Island meeting at Rosa.

- Henderson St. Bazaar could potentially stay or be moved
- "Tower Zones" (mostly residential) is still being reviewed
- Lots of mentioning of Austin, Bricktown in OKC, and San Antonio from the audience
- Streetcar is mentioned with T-Met having something in the works.
- Concern about being displaced
- Homelessness was a major concern
- Keep the culture intact

A month later, I get this news.

#147599 High Speed Rail - Texas

Posted by Jeriat on 06 August 2023 - 09:33 PM

The fact that money and energy are being put into trying to connect Fort Worth and Dallas via high speed rail shows that these are not serious people.

I think it more as the continuation of the Houston to Dallas HSR... which would be the Texas Triangle connection, eventually.

It's in Alliance... which is still a beating.

But at least it's not as far as The Colony.

I won't try it unless I'm in the area or once all the construction has finally ended

I've had it and liked it. I work in Lewisville, now, so it's closer to me when I'm at the office... but I'd prefer not to drive THAT far for food.

Bold prediction:  It won't last 6 months.

I'm predicting that just because of its location.

Also, "French Japanese"... this is the first thing that comes to mind:

Inside of Walloons (Magnolia/Hemphill) from my morning bike ride. Looks just about ready to start hiring and prepping to open. The interior work does great justice to the historic building.

Looks to be a great addition to Magnolia... hope to see more, further east.

#147260 Northside Developments (Non-Stockyards / Non-TRV Projects)

Posted by Jeriat on 13 July 2023 - 08:28 PM

After looking at the zoning codes, maybe I should be.

Listening to the discussion made by the developer it sounds like it will be more suburban in nature. They have a Home 2 Suites lined up for the hotel site and are going for a Saltgrass or Texas Roadhouse for the retail. No renderings or plans were shown.

Never mind . . .

I hear where you are coming from but maybe you can be moderately excited instead of very excited. LOL

There is nothing worth going to that area for now.  As a resident of Northside and having first hand knowledge about its years of neglect I am of the opinion that it is great to have something that is modern and functional.  Will it be perfect?  Probably not, but is it something that will be a benefit to the area?  Hopefully more so than what is there now.

What kind of development would you like to see there that would make you "very" excited?  Just curious for a different point of view.

I just don't like seeing "suburban in nature" in an area that's less than 4 miles from downtown, but I can't really be surprised. I already know my vision of the core of the city probably isn't even close in mind to those who actually have the money and ability to push these projects out.
