Livability.com lists what they believe to be the 10 best downtowns of 2014. Fort Worth's came in first. Not bad.

Is that a Luenser picture to boot? Nice! Seems a bit odd, surely there are better ones out there, but Ill take it. I guess they played a lot of numbers games in deciding this. I've not been to many downtowns in the southern half of the USA I like more though. San Antonio for sure is a contender in that.  

On a side note, every time I see White River park (in the cover shot with Indianapolis) I get excited for what the TRV will look like.

Looks like Livability.com picked a bunch of random nice downtowns. Downtown Fort Worth is nice, but #1 in the US? Really?  That's funny.

All of these lists can be so subjective, just like architecture.  I'm sure there are many factors involved in these determinations.  I would really question that we were #1, but I will take the publicity.

 

Yes, that is one of Brian's photographs.  He is really coming into his own with his photography.  I just hate that he has more or less left Fortwortharchitecture.com and this forum.

The ranking criteria includes population and median income.  But I am puzzled by this class of cities regarding population.  All the cities that ranked in the top 10 are less than the size of Arlington, Texas, with the exception of Indianapolis (834,852 at #3) and Fort Worth (777,898 at #1).  The next largest city ranked is Birmingham, Ala. (212,637 at #10) and Providence, RI (178,046 at #2).  I guess the other criteria matter more than population.  So downtowns New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Houston, and Dallas are not very livable?
