Dallas-Fort Worth is the fifth most congested region in the country, according to data in a new report from Inrix, a major provider of real-time traffic information.

Inrix supplies traffic information for global positioning system devices and mobile phones.

The D-FW ranking was based on the company's traffic statistics compiled from more than 30,000 road segments on nearly 50,000 miles of primary roadways.

"Unfortunately for drivers, the report found traffic congestion has worsened significantly across all major urban areas," said an announcement about the report. "It now takes the average American commuting across U.S. roadways two times longer than it did in 2006."

Houston ranked seventh worst in the nation, the study found.

Analysis by Inrix showed northbound on Loop 820 at Highway 26/Grapevine Highway/Exit 22 is the worst bottleneck in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Inrix said the country's Top 10 congested areas are: Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, Calif.; New York, northern New Jersey and Long Island, N.Y.; Chicago-Naperville, Ill.; Washington D.C. and Arlington, Va.; Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington; San Francisco, Oakland and Freemont, Calif.; Houston; Boston, Cambridge and Quincy, Mass.; Seattle, Wash.; and Atlanta, Ga.

The study also found that the worst day for traffic is Friday and the worst commute is 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Friday; the best week day for traffic is Monday; the worst morning is Wednesday; and the best morning is Friday

and I am told by some in the biz that pretty much all plans including 820 expansion have been shelved indefinitely. The only way roads are getting built around here is if they are toll roads.

I think 35W South to Burleson still has on going construction as well as some bridge work south of Burleson. And heard on TV this morning there is 35W at 820 South loop side ?? West bound lane will be shut down starting Saturday?? for few days.

Didn't plan on going out today anyway.
