#74336 Project Sundance

This is great news.  In a perfect world, this idea could be expanded North and South to make most of Main a pedestrian mall with no vehicle traffic.

Anyone know much about what the area is going to look like for the Arts Fest in April?  Those lots have always been a big focal point of the festival, so it will be interesting to see how they handle that this year.  I seem to remember reading something about it, but I can't remember how far back that was in this thread.

I hate to be the one that always falls back to this position, but I have to What's more likely: A sexy, shadowy conspiracy of which there is no evidence to impede development and keep the city "small" or unsexy economic forces like supply and demand that have been proven to hold true for centuries?

I ducked out of work early today and watched the "implosion" of Texas Chute Out. I worked in rides at the park for 6 years, so as cool as it was, it was a little bittersweet. Here's my video:

This quote from the original article in the first post in this thread made me chuckle:

"The idea that a train would come into a historical neighborhood is so far-fetched I just can't believe it,"

Really? I bet there were some railroad guys about a hundred years ago that said to each other, "The idea that someone would build a neighborhood next to that rail line is so far-fetched I just can't believe it."

And I hate to upset the lady even more, but trains were coming into her historical neighborhood long before she moved there 5 years ago.

#68593 S-T Opinion Piece: Fort Worth Missed Opportunities to Create Walkable City

I'm not sure how you could read Kevin's piece (or any of the posts here agreeing with him) and walk away with the assumption that he wants to ban vehicle traffic. What I get out of what he and others are suggesting: I should be able to get a haircut at Boardroom, have drinks at 7th Haven, eat a burger at Fred's, and go bowl a couple of games at Lucky Strike on the same evening without moving my car 3 times. The fact that there's no infrastructure in place to do that is insane. And no one is saying that you have to do that. Just that it's not right that it's not even an option at this point.

I'm sure educators and students in Texas wouldn't share that sentiment.

#56154 NYC pics

I just returned from my first trip to New York City and I thought I would share a few of the 1500+ pics that I took while I was there.

*Disclaimer - I am a man among boys on this forum when it comes to my photography skills. My pics are far from perfect. I don't use a tripod and, given that I had used my brand new Nikon D40 exactly one time before this trip, the camera might have a button that unfolds a hidden tripod.

Enjoy.
