Don't want to take this thread off topic, but a very long time ago, too far back for me to remember the details, on the land across University from that proposed fountain, an artist "loaned" or prospectively placed a modern art sculpture. It was a static piece, but well suited for that location and viewed from a moving perspective from the adjacent roads, the sculpture created a dynamic illusion. I expect someone else will remember this in better detail than me.

I like the fountain idea. Those grassy plots on either side of University feel like they could be further activated somehow.
I'm not sure how many folks have driven by the zoo "entrance" off university lately, but within the last 9months or so they've installed new signage that I think looks quite

Would zoo guests go for this type of restroom if it were overlooking the Cheetah area? I don't know this sort of weirds me out a little. When they came up with the name "Wilder Vision" I don't think this is what they were referring to.

The "Wilder Vision" refers to all of the phases of this zoo expansion that relates to the African and Asian animals.
As for the restrooms, I don't think anyone was thinking along the lines of the example that you have shown. All of the restrooms we have designed appear to be part of an African village. The buildings are very rustic and the finishes are "rustic" and "country", as well.

The zoo always wants the plantings to be installed as early as possible to hide the construction. This is standard operating procedure at the zoo.

Winton Terrace is still very much under construction. Hope this isn't an issue for any runners on Saturday morning. Seems passable but could be a little uneven in some areas.

This past Saturday morning our family made our first visit to the "new" Splash Pad and the 4yr old gave it an unreserved and fully enthusiastic positive review. As zoo members it was only an additional $4/pp to go, it wasn't crowded but had enough people to ensure the place felt alive with activity. We'll certainly be going back.
My earliest zoo memories basically go back to the opening of the Primate House and darn near all of the changes have been great to see. I personally REALLY like the new hippo viewing areas and habitats, they are lightyears ahead of the old space.
We did notice the flamingo walk area is also receiving a full redo right now as well, and that's something that has begun over the past month.
We can't wait to see the newest upgrade opening next year, but with Ramona Bass as seemingly such a driving force for so much of the positive change over the past 30years, I really wonder what sort of successor/legacy plans are in place for "after." I hope the trajectory continues and isn't something that withers when she's eventually unable to still be the zoo's champion.

Agreed. That is an incredible amount of fundraising, really "next level" stuff. I'm paraphrasing for copyright but the Bass' quote of "Well, how about you do something about it." is actually quite powerful and moving, knowing generally the extent their resources and connections. It's easy to complain about things we see that are broken or neglected and they could have just mutually said, "well that's too bad" and moved on but she didn't. That's really the heart of Fort Worth greatness is all about. That's really forward thinking too.
The new splash pad is a nice add-on feature for families especially how hot it gets here. I believe the flamingos were under quarantine a few months ago due to avian flu outbreak, might have been a good time to revamp their enclosure. Funny side story about the flamingos, I don't know if it their droppings or their food, but the ones that are up near the main entrance, my stomach always turns when that smell hits me. I've been around animals and livestock but for some reason that smell zaps my sensory and nervous system at once. Since we have a membership, I don't mind fast tracking that exhibit "oh, look and the flamingos, let's come back to this section later" secretly hoping we don't. One day I saw a guy coming out of the African Savanah exhibit having full on sneezing attack. I almost offered him an epi pen but thought that might be a little overkill unless he had passed out or was clutching his throat. It was quite an ordeal, he sneezed uncontrollably from my estimate nearly 30 times before I lost sight of him.

Here's some recent update photos of the Asian Predators & Hunters of Africa Exhibit at the FW Zoo.
Animal enclosure structure erected
Enclosure fence and more up-close boulder formations and some of the buildings taking shape in the background:
I grabbed a close-up of the rendering of the little bus. You can see it on some of the drawings above where that sits in the grand scheme of things.
Interesting they drilled a well right here. Makes sense considering the amount of water being used for this exhibit. I'm guessing that's the pump for the wellhead behind the sign with some sort of control box mounted on unistrut for the pump.

A Wilder Vision construction updates from this afternoon 12/6/22 at the Asian Predators & Hunters of Africa Exhibit. Looks like they poured some stamped and concrete walkways...this is really taking shape and I bet this cooler weather is a welcomed change especially with all the flatwork left to pour.

as passholders, my family is hoping to check it out this weekend too.
I imagine crowds will be larger than normal, but we hope to let the 5yr old run around in the splash area too.
She's really been intrigued watching the construction and peeking through the walls
That splash pad is a nice feature to have for kids especially these hot summer days.

Made it out to the new Predator's exhibit today. The zoo really outdid themselves on this one. The landscape is super impressive, every turn there is something new to look at. I didn't measure the distance but it felt like they increased the walkable exhibit frontage by around 30-40% total. We started way over by the rhino's up the stairs past the elephants where they had the dead end during construction and it twist and turns all the back over through the raptors exhibits past MOLA on the main pathway through the zoo. I grabbed what I could for photos. The leopard literally tried to kill us through the glass, actually I think it was the panther but he/she was ready to eat a child I reckon.
(I tried to not get these folks ahead of my in the shot, but wanted to show the bus and they had kids in the other shots. thankfully the bus has some air piped into it.)
