I don't believe there's a thread directly on this subject. More EV charging stations in our area are being installed at various locations. Two sites I've observed--Tesla has some parking spaces on a lot off Whitmore Street just east of the Maple Branch Craft Brewery, and the Target Super Store near Montgomery Plaza recently erected a number of them on its parking lot.

When I was in New Jersey this summer, I was suprised at how full / busy the charging stations were at the Wawa gas stations. Mainly Tesla's in the middle of the afternoon. It certainly seems like we would be seeing more of these around FW. I mentioned in another thread that there's a couple of new office projects in Texas that include a lots of charging stations. Springdale Green in Austin (California developer) has 100 charging stations and there's another new project in Dallas that has in the design, around 120 charging stations slated.
It looks like they are moving ahead with the Biden proposed installing charging stations every 50 miles along federal highways. I'm not exactly sure what that infrastructure would look like for that but if you've ever driven cross country, there's many parts of the US along federal highways where I'd be surprised to see any infrastructure not to mention a charging station infrastructure. Do you think that will be every 50 miles on average or more literally every 50 miles? I took a quick road trip up north along I-35 a few weeks ago and I really didn't see hardly any electric vehicles outside of major cities. I've watched youtube videos documenting a Tesla cross country road trip and its certainly possible to pull off with a little planning and waiting involved. I know when I'm on the road, I like to just fill-up and go at each stop so there's a bit of a mindset change involved if this is the direction we're heading. I want to say Rivian max range is around 316 miles and the Model S is around 400 with the dual motor configuration. According to some sites online, "Level 3 Superchargers can take a Tesla from 0-170 miles range in just 30 minutes" but I'd want to get a fuller charge than that. I would also expect to start seeing more hotels outfitted with overnight charging stations.

I looked into EV chargers for a project a few months ago and was told by one of the large scale operators that partners with businesses that they were mostly looking to work with large retail developments. That makes sense given that is one of the most common locations.

I thought about EV charging stations around July 4th weekend when I took a road trip to Tulsa for a brief vacation. When I observed the small mom-and-pop gas stations and the large QT-style ones variously situated in every small town and large city across Oklahoma, I realized that duplicating this fuel-dispensing convenience for gasoline-powered cars and trucks with the same convenience for electric vehicles will be a massive undertaking that clearly won't happen overnight.

If you've ever wondered the cost to add a few EV charging stations, according to this new TDLR listing, six charging stations at a hotel site, would cost around $150,000 total or $25,000 each.

I did some casual inquiring about EV chargers last year and that sounds about right. Some companies will install them at no cost on a revenue sharing arrangement, but the criteria are fairly particular.

Getting power over to the EV chargers would be a factor too. I think the normal convenience charging stations outside stores might be around 60A each give or take. If the distance from a panel to the charging station was too far away or required lots of saw cutting of concrete in a parking etc it would be possible to add a new drop from a pole perhaps on the far side of a parking nearest a power line.
This is interesting. Apparently the new V3 250kW Tesla Superchargers can produce a whopping 301amps.

They already have them. Not Fort Worth yet, but Temple and New Braunfels have Tesla superchargers.

You can add Madisonville to that list.

The new QT at Henderson and Lancaster is nearing an opening for customers. I glanced at the newly installed gasoline pumps. Why doesn't QT anticipate the future and put in at least one or two EV charging stations?

I don't know that the typical QT customer stays at the store long enough to get a meaningful charge. I'm sure their longest staying customers are those buying fuel.

I agree. But I'm concerned that status-quo businesses like QT are too risk averse to foresee the future of EV. I'm sure you and everyone else in this forum is aware of the new solid state battery technology that eventually will be mean quicker charging and longer range of travelling on a single charge. Toyota may soon be marketing an EV that takes only 10 minutes to charge and has a 745-mile range. If ubiquitous companies like QT don't step up to the plate, our country will never have an adequate EV infrastructure.

I don't disagree with businesses needing to be ready to adapt, but it's tough for them to justify expenses based on technology not available or, as you say, "may soon be". EV charges are very expensive to purchase off the shelf and maintain. Providers that partner with businesses on turnkey chargers have tight parameters for installation that I doubt somewhere like QT with their short stays meets. (I've researched installing chargers as part of my work.)

Two charging stations of note are located at or near popular beer, wine and liquor hangouts. One is at Acre Distillery, 1301 Calhoun Street, and the other is near Maple Branch Craft Brewery, 2628 Whitmore Street.

I'm not familiar with the one at Acre Distillery. Can you tell me exactly where it is along 1301?

Ask and you shall receive. Something tells me you won't have a problem wasting 30-60 minutes for a charge while here. You might go broke, but at least the bathrooms are clean.

Acre Distillery is about two blocks north of the Texas A&M School of Law.
