As far as the house and the planes and all that, as far as I'm concerned the people giving to the church should know where their money is going. If they don't, then it's their problem for being ignorant. If they do and they truly feel that people like Copeland deserve $4 million houses tax-free, then more power to them. I think the latter is more the case to be honest...the members seem to like the fact that their leader has the fastest jet and the biggest house.

It's implied that someone is interested if CBS news is doing a report about it, right?

If you see nothing wrong, would you be interested in donating to bhudson Ministries? I've got a Citation X payment coming due and the yard at my estate villa needs mowing. I'm a religious organization, so it works out good. I pay no taxes on offerings made under false pretenses, and you get to make a deduction. Oh, and the Lord'll love ya more! PM me.

I think it is not the simple matter of wealth which interests... it is much more the tax-cheat aspect that gives the story legs.

Yes. it is implied. But thirsty is more accurate than interested, don't you agree?

The people who SET these organizations up, funnel capital gains OOPS I mean support them with charitable donations and who use the tax code-loophole advantages are just lining up themselves for a big fall from grace. Somewhere and at sometime, this idea of ministry as a financial tax haven just got waay out of hand and really warped. Somebody helped make these loopholes stick during some legislative season, all under the national radar. Quite a shame when you see these people take full advantage of the process and the naiveness of the flock.
One does assume that his ministry has a few millionaires involved (like a club) in a certain level of it. And one can assume that all of those boats, cars, planes and LAND are acquired with the BEST interest of those very powerful few. The YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH GOD stance is getting a bit old and I'm sorry but if you really can talk to the lord on an everyday basis and the lord told you to diversify your wealth in an outrageous glut of expensive splendor, then you need to be smacked well into next week, Joan Collins style.
What happened to the humility of PAUL in ministry?

The way I see it, the worst case is that this person is a successful thief and liar.
Think about everything you have ever taken or lied about.
Aren't you just envious someone might be more clever than you and has something to show for thier lies and thievery?
I will admit to feeling that way sometimes.

Well I'm actually quite happy Mr. Andrade. Happy that this "practice" is finally getting coverage by the BIG NEWS desk.
The subpoena is mightier than the sword. Grassley and his Senate commitee will get their time with Mr. C, and I can't wait to hear what follows.

I don't agree. It's an interesting debate actually, and not one that just divides "believers" and "non-believers".
Most non-religious people will think it's all ridiculous of course. But I think the interesting thing is that people who would call themselves born-again Christians will be divided on whether they feel Copeland's (or any of these people who are being talked about) wealth and lifestyle are legitimate. Some people see them as CEO's of large corporations who deserve to be paid like CEO's. Others see them as men who are exploiting God's name for personal gain.
Yes I think there are some that are "thirsty" as you say, but I also think it's a genuinely interesting debate, the whole question of legitimacy, tax status, etc when it comes to these people and their organizations.

I figure poor old Jesus would have a tough time understanding the likes of K Copeland as well as the current neocons who advocate tortue. But the conservatives would be unlikely to court his vote anyway, A longhaired peacenik who hangs out with a prostitute and other rabble isn't likely to be invited to the republican club. If i had to guess, Jesus was a liberal. The following are Biblical quotes to support my belief thanks to www.jesusisaliberal.org.
Peacemaking, not War Making: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children
of God. [Matthew 5:9] Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to
him the other also. [Matthew 5:39] I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you,
do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you;
[Matthew 5:44]
The Death Penalty: Thou shalt not kill [Matthew 5:21]
Crime and Punishment: If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to cast a stone at her.
[John 8:7] Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be
judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. [Matthew 7:1 & 2.]
Justice: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
[Matthew 5:6] Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy [Matthew 5:7] But if ye forgive
not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [Matthew 6:15]
Corporate Greed and the Religion of Wealth: In the temple courts [Jesus] found men selling cattle,
sheep and doves and other sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords,
and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money
changers and overturned their tables. [John 2:14 & 15.] Watch out! Be on your guard against all
kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. [Luke 12.15.]
Truly, I say unto you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. [Matthew 19:23]
You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.]
Paying Taxes & Separation of Church & State: Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are
Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. [Matthew 22:21]
Community: Love your neighbor as yourself. .[Matthew 22:39] So in everything, do to others as
you would have them do to you.[Matthew 7:12.] If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess
and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. [Matthew 19:21]
Equality & Social Programs: But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the
blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the
resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.]
Public Prayer & Displays of Faith: And when thou pray, thou shall not be as the hypocrites are: for
they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be
seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou pray, enter into
thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret… [Matthew 6:6
& 7]
Strict Enforcement of Religious Laws: If any of you has a son or a sheep and it falls into a pit on
the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? [Matthew 12:11] The Sabbath was made for
man, and not man for the Sabbath. [Mark 2:27.]
Individuality & Personal Spiritual Experience: Ye are the light of the world. [Matthew 5:14]

It's so poignant how we can each see the bible in a way that favors our own way of thinking.
And that we can surround ourselves with like-minded people and our own flavor of church, Etc.
I believe you are sincere, but even as believers, we disagree on maybe half of what you wrote.
I guess at the end of time God gets the last word and we get to say, "oh yeah.er..oops"

Evangelicals such as Kenneth Copeland and the like are specially gifted motivationalist that pyramid based companies and Amway and the likes pay megabucks to just to speak at their conventions in order to get into prospective victim's heads. The sad part is that the type people that are most likely to fall for this are the elderly, mentally challenged, uneducated, or very young, although any person can fall pray.
In the case of the companies, they pump them into believing they will become filthy rich by selling their product and recruiting others to work under them. In the case of the Evangelicals - and I am just talking about Kenneth Copeland types that think they are above being questioned about their finances and activities - they can easily talk people out of their hard earned money to support their selfish lifestyle.
I personally know of two families that found out their elderly parents were secretly sending in money to these ministries for years from savings the kids didn't know of and the kids were having to support the parents.
This isn't about religion, it's about fraud.

people we don't like. Stick around and you will learn what flavor we eat around here.

I was talkin wit JC earlier today, and I asked Jeebers for some direction on this KC ordeal, as it affects our entire community here in FW. I asked him that a sign should be given in revealing the truth(s) involving the KC funds and charters, and what exactly his particular ministry means to all of FW, and this sign shall come to me on a day that means so much to so many people here in America, but for other non-religious reasons.
I asked that if the NYGiants WIN the SBowl, then let that be a sign of KC being in the WRONG, and that his ministry's core truth shall be revealed to us once and for all in the light of the lord and our Congress. I asked that if the Dark Evil Empire known as the NE Patriots WIN the SBowl, then KC and his ministry will have been spared of the label of "false witness" and "FRAUD", and they shall teach their good word to all of humanity and keep accepting as much money as they can get their holy lil hands on.
Guess I was right all along!

GO GIANTS!

Copeland is a crook, his god is money, and his followers are duped. Replace "Copeland" with the name of almost any other media evangelist and repeat. How he has gotten away with what he does, and for so long, should make society question the almost unfettered ability of shysters hiding behind the veneer of religion to fleece the naive and desperate, and all this income tax-free!

I don't know much of anything surrounding Kenneth Copeland so it is better for me to say nothing.
I thought the outcome found it the survey was "revelatory" as it indicated that the U.S. is trending towards Western Europe in the aspect of religion; and , that the nation is becoming less religious even though not the same extent for now.
What I think resonates out of the survey published by CNN is that the nation is becoming increasingly liberal and leaning away from theocratic normalcy. The findings suggest that the progressive steps towards addressing the environment, health care, concentration of wealth may be more attainable going forward.
