Nitixope, you did get two of them right, but there are more.

Also in 1925 architects Sanguinet and Staats designed a new building for Monnigs wholesale business at 100 East 15th Street next to Joseph Browns wholesale grocery building.
Years later Williams son Oscar, by then president of the company, would fight to save the building when it was threatened on two sides by construction of the Water Gardens, convention center, and east-west freeway.
And he would be successful. In 1982 Monnigs left the building, but it was renovated and lives on as Water Gardens Place.
The Monnigs buildings in the stores original location were less fortunate: They were demolished for the convention center.

No one identified all of the objects still in place from the photograph. Nitixope did identify three more objects, but there are three that are left. The first, is in the distance above the Ashton Depot in the upper left. It was the first I.M. Terrell School, which later became Carver-Hamilton Elementary, and of late was the administrative offices of Fort Worth Housing Solutions.
The next item is the round water feature in the island with the Al Hayne Memorial, and the last object is the decorative rail that starts the South Main Underpass in the lower right of the photo.
Next month's tour is Bronze and Stone, our public art in Downtown. It will be held on June 11, 2022 and we will meet at 9:00 AM in the Concourse of the Texas & Pacific Railway Terminal.

The next Downtown Fort Worth Walking Tour is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 9:00 AM. We will meet at the T&P Outdoor Concourse next to the T&P Tavern between the historic skyscraper and the commuter rail lines. The title for the first tour of 2023 is “Skyline Tour – Fort Worth’s historic (& new) Skyscrapers”.

This month's tour on Saturday will be fun and challenging. The Stock Show Parade is running right through our planned route right after we finish at 11:00 AM. The parade route goes south on Main to the Convention Center, west on 9th for one block, then north on Houston back to the Courthouse. I guess the good news is that those who are interested can stay and watch the parade.

Thank you, John, for your wing of the very well attended downtown skyscraper tour this morning. Your insight and knowledge (and pictures on your iPad) were terrific. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. I've done these tours twice since I've moved back to Fort Worth in October, and I'm taken aback by the high level of interest and the diversity of participants in these tours. I attended the Stock Show parade after the tour and really enjoyed that as well. I've known this since ever, but we live in a special place.

Ramjet, you are welcome. As I said on the tour, I probably have as much or more fun as the attendees. Nitixope, it was quite a different experience to be in Downtown today. I also enjoyed my walk back.

There's one this Saturday morning at 9:00am. The group gathers at the open air seating area T&P Tavern. It has a nicer public restroom and Tim & Donna serve homemade breakfast burritos beforehand. This weekend is Historic South Main Village tour so they will be walking south instead of through downtown.
https://www.timdyoung.com/tours/
(By the way, if you don't or can't pre-register, just show up anyways, it's not a big deal. It's more for the burrito count.)
There's free street parking along Lancaster all the way from the warehouse past T&P or pay in the T&P lot.

arch-image, we'll catch you at the next one or maybe a forum lunch. The lunches meet at 11:45 on the last friday of the month at Benitos on Magnolia and there was one or two times around the holidays when we weren't all pressed for time and did a brief Magnolia area walking tour as well as toured danben26's loft apartment at PS1200.
The format of these Saturday morning downtown walking tours is pretty laid back but covers a lot more ground with a quite large group as you can tell from my photo. You're always welcome to stay as long as you can and peel off if you need to go sooner.
We sort of kicked around the idea of doing a Stockyards walking tour led by John if anyone is interested. I'd imagine this would also be a Saturday morning. I'm game if anyone else is?

Nitixope: your photos are really terrific. I especially like the ones of Broadway Baptist and the former synagogue (now Presbyterian church). Fort Worth has some magnificent church architecture, and as John pointed out this morning a lot of interesting school/education architecture. These tours have been so interesting and well done (thanks, John).

Thanks JBB and ramjet. I always feel very uplifted after doing these walking tours, just a rare opportunity to tap into our city's history, and doing this with a big group lets you just soak it in for a minute. The building that spoke to me the most today was the George B. Monnig house. Look at those lines! (she didn't know she was getting her picture taken this morning, without her hair and make-up) I feel like there's another chapter to that story. Glad to have hidden gems like that still with us.

I saw that you found the Recorded Texas Historic Landmark plaque. I didn't see it on the tour, and I thought it might have been removed.

I wanted to let the forum know that I will not be leading one of the tours tomorrow (Saturday, March 18). I have come down with a very bad cold and I had to take today off from work. I have already tested for Covid, and it came back negative, so that is good news for me. Tim Young and Brian Ketcham will be the tour guides.

The air was very clear today but quite breezy in the shade. Better that you stayed home and rested. I caught a minute of Tims presentation in front of the Panther statue behind Flatiron and he did a good job, but I had intended to meet up with ramjet. It was fun hearing Brians quips too.

The Downtown Fort Worth Walking Tour for October, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled.
I was actually looking forward to this one given the cooler weather.
#143
Posted 13 October 2023 - 11:29 AM
The reason for the cancellation was that both Brian and Tim had unexpected scheduling conflicts pop up that they couldn't cancel. Welooked at doing it a week early, or a week late, but there were other conflicts with them, as well. The result was that the tour was cancelled, and Tim contacted everyone that had signed up to tell them the tour was not going to happen on Saturday. We had over 100 people to sign up, and that is too many for me to handle on a tour.

I've noticed the tours have really gained in popularity recently. That would be a challenge to corral that many people by yourself. I really enjoyed the Near Southside Tour and the Hotels Tour too.
