I'm pretty sure there's a post on this forum somewhere that already features the site right across from MP (in fact, I KNOW it's been talked about before), but still... what's this? 

There's dirt moving on Carroll between 5th and 6th:

it's going to be a blue mesa grille. the plan is for a  two story steel structure with the restaurant on the bottom floor and an event center above it. im excited about many aspects about it from the 40 trees that are being brought to the lot to the architectural design by rick carrell from carrell partners and yost. this is not going to be a suburban macaroni grille building design and many craftsman are being lined up. i can't share with you the site plan or building design quite yet.

Okay dfwerdoc, the framing is going up and it is looking interesting for sure. Is it possible to share the site plan yet?

As to the overhead lines surrounding the site these old transmission lines are grandfathered by Oncor. Really difficult and overly expensive to bury or work around. The West 7th. Urban Village area really needs major utility upgrades to continue to grow. Not much city bond funds are being used in the center city. In fact they were reduced by city council in favor of suburban projects. Underground utilities at Trinity Left Bank are burdening the project with extraordinary cost with very little focus by the city on supporting the needed infrastructure required for that major infill development. Priorities really need to be examined. Balancing where the tax base is generated vs. where we spend should be seriously considered by stall and council.

DFWerDoc confirmed, they will eventually be burying the power lines on Carroll St., and for good reason!

 

 

Zahner, an internationally acclaimed engineering and fabrication company that specializes in the creation of custom art and architectural systems, is creating some unique architectural panels to be installed several feet off of the building. Zahner utilizes a patented image-to-metal software called Zira, that creates bumps, dents, holes and shapes that create the image when the light hits it. The panels will be covered with perforations that will be viewed both from the outside and from the inside of the restaurant, day and night. Outside the sun will create the image and lighting on the panels at night. DFWerdoc also mentioned it has never been done in this scale before, as you can see examples at the bottom this page. Pretty cool, huh?

That is really cool. It's really going to stand out on that block.

Blue Mesa seems to be really big in the catering business (they deliver and they're very affordable). This location looks to capitalize on this. They appeared to be a company on a downward turn with a number of closed locations in recent years, but maybe this is a sign they're moving in the right direction.

The property is also going to have 40+ trees. So it will definitely add value and appeal to the neighborhood.

Which is even more disappointing with the way the MP strip malls were built... 

Also, this begs the question: You think we're going to see sidewalk improvements in the near future? Not much you can do with the street.

The stop sign at Mercedes has helped. It is a pretty busy road. The closing of White Settlement for the TRV is probably contributing to that.

Well, relatively few compared to West 7th. But you're right, I've never done that. Perhaps I made a bad assumption.

Most streets in town see little traffic relative to 7th. It will also be pretty visible from 7th.
