Solar panels for 30 houses, rainwater collection for toilets and irrigation:

Alcon is one of the responsible corporate citizens in Fort Worth and this new investment would seem to indicate that they are here for the long run. It would be great if some responsible if some responsible urban planning firm were brought in by a like-minded developer to build a mixed-use "village" adjacent to the Alcon complex to provide the potential for walking or bicycle work commute. There is already a suburban-sprawl development to the northeast but I don't think there is any sort of connection from there to the campus gate(s) so no reason for employees to live there. There is a litte-used FWWR rail line to the immediate east of there that could someday be used for commuter or light rail through the east side to downtown.

Alcon appears to be moving their HQ to Switzerland, but the Fort Worth campus will remain:

would be interesting to know over the last 7 years, how many corporate HQ's have moved to Ft. Worth vs how many have moved away...

(along with the job totals from each)

I would like to know what is being done to draw more here. I'm not sure I could fault anyone local with Alcon or even XTO leaving town. Both were bought out by larger companies and the HQs moving out of town were really inevitable.

The article states that Alcon was founded in Fort Worth in 1945.  I guess there's no corporate hometown loyalty to Fort Worth when it comes to choosing the location for a "global" headquarters.

Alcon's new parent company is not local, so I don't know that loyalty is in play here.

If my memory is correct, Alcon became a subsidiary of a Swiss company several years back.  Consider that BNSF is headquartered in Fort Worth but is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Omaha, NE.

The intent for this proposed project is for Alcon Laboratories to expand their campus manufacturing  operations towards the East of their Main campus onto land that is understood to have been procured by Alcon many years ago for local growth opportunities. The primary intent for this proposed project is to construct an approximately 250000 sqft manufacturing facility and would include the development of the site with new proposed secure entrances for employee/staff and a separate secure truck entrance, both from Altamesa Boulevard. The proposed building site is located to the Northeast quadrant of the property to align with Alcon's future master plan development visions. As such, the intent of this project is to include the establishment of all source utilities for the currently proposed facility, as well as, to plan for future growth with strategic utility provisions. It is envisioned that a separate stand-alone utility building will be provided adjacent to the manufacturing facility to serve the demands of the new manufacturing facility and include provision for expansion in the future.  The proposed site anticipates parking for employee/staff personnel with provisions to expand for future growth.  The current architectural and engineering efforts are considering the feasibility of the proposed project at the proposed site location. The  intent of this request is to identify any hurdles or challenges with the City of Fort Worth related to zoning and permitting that can be included in the feasibility and planning efforts related to the initiation of the proposed project development.

I toured parts of the Alcon campus when I was in high school and the campus was probably half the size of what it is now.  Their growth over the years is impressive.

Smart of them to hold onto that chunk of land.
