#152038 Modern Streetcar Dead (?)
Posted by elpingüino on 02 May 2024 - 12:37 PM
I'd agree if this were one or even two years later, but after 14 years there have been enough changes in FW that this effort no longer qualifies as "doing the same thing."Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
Not only has the city population grown by 30% since then, we now have an entirely different Council. In fact, with 9 out of 11 first taking office in the 2020s, it's not just the next generation post-streetcar vote, it's the generation after that.
2010: Jordan, Zimmerman, Burdette, Scarth, Moncrief opposed; Burns, Espino, Moss in favor; Hicks not present.
2024:
Parker, took office in 2021
Flores, 2017
Crain, 2021
Lauersdorf, 2023
Bivens, 2013
Williams, 2021
Hill, 2023
Nettles, 2021
Beck, 2021
Blaylock, 2022
Martinez, 2023
None of this is meant to predict whether this new effort will succeed or fail, just to illustrate how the landscape has changed since 2010.

This week the Census Bureau released new estimates this week for counties and metro areas as of July 1, 2023.
All the data, https://www.census.g...ties-total.html
https://www.axios.co...ion-growth-2024
These county figures show that Tarrant County grew 3.2% from 2022 to 2023, Travis County (Austin) grew 3.0%, Duval County (Jacksonville) grew 1.4%, and Santa Clara County (San Jose) shrunk by less than a percentage point.
So for 2022 to 2023 at the city level, my predictions are Austin cracks the 1 million mark and remains in 10th place. Fort Worth grows to 987,000, easily surpassing San Jose and just barely getting ahead of Jacksonville by only a couple thousand people, and we move up to 11th.

It'd be a similar design as the interchange south of the airport. The southern terminus of International Parkway is one mile to the east of 360, but there's a direct ramp so that southbound traffic doesn't have to funnel on and off of 183 for that mile.

Heard it here first....Tacodeli coming to Tanglewood [area]. (is this really Tanglewood on the west side of Hulen?)
Le Margot, also on the west side of Hulen, is typically described as Tanglewood: https://amp.star-tel...e261747312.html

It's Reddit, so take this with a shaker of salt, but a lengthy discussion about rumors that the new generation of the Lancarte family is set to sell Joe T's to Taylor Sheridan. https://www.reddit.c..._joe_t_garcias/
Article about Joe T's being on the market to sell.
https://fortworthrep...=organic-social
I have also heard through the grapevine that he is also purchasing/purchased several lots behind Joe T's along Commerce Street from 21st to 23rd that he plans to redevelop
Who knew, sometimes Reddit rumors are true!

- The DFW Metroplex grew by 152,000, the most in the US.
- Tarrant grew by 27,301, the ninth in the US. That's like we tacked on another Colleyville last year.
- Tarrant population is now 2.182 million
- Tarrant had natural population growth (births as opposed to relocations) of 13,010, fifth in the US.
