That is super interesting. So the busiest WB train leaves the airport at at 2:40PM and arrives at T&P at 3:35PM, and the busiest EB train leaves T&P at 12:43 and gets to DFW at 1:36. Both of those are during the period of 1-hour frequencies, so

 

a. I can see why Trinity Metro wants more mid-day frequency

b. That is a lot of people waiting a long time

c. I bet those peaks will become more evenly distributed with 30-min frequency

 

Also wild how few people ride those trains that terminate at Northside or Mercantile. Totally pointless to even have those.

The last two WB trains that only run to Mercantile have saved me on numerous occasions I've been extended due to mass flight delays.

Something I should've noted in my previous post- the red bars are the trains that are proposed to get the axe. I'm not sure what yellow means.

(FORT WORTH, TEXAS) Oct. 18, 2024 — Beginning Sunday, Nov. 3, Trinity Metro TEXRail’s schedule will increase to 30 minutes during midday service, which is currently hourly. This service improvement will provide consistent half-hour frequency for the majority of service hours.

 “We’ve studied ridership patterns and noticed a surge in passengers in the middle of the day,” Vice President of Rail Reed Lanham said. “With more customers traveling at the time, we chose to adapt the schedule to meet customer demand and provide greater convenience and to accommodate commuters.”

For passengers traveling from Fort Worth T&P Station to DFW Airport Terminal B Station, the first trip will be at 4:13 a.m., and the 30-minute frequency will continue through the 6:43 p.m. departure. The night trains will be on hourly service, with the last one leaving at 10:43 p.m.

Travelers heading west from the airport will enjoy 30-minute frequency beginning at 5:10 a.m. and continuing through 7:40 p.m. Hourly service follows for nighttime hours, with the last full-route train leaving DFW Airport Terminal B Station at 11:40 p.m. An additional train from the airport leaves at 12:30 a.m. and travels to Mercantile Center Station.

“The enhanced schedule makes it easier and more convenient for Trinity Metro TEXRail riders to travel,” said Lanham. “Customers won’t need to wonder when the next train is arriving because our new schedule will be consistent and easy to use.”

Trinity Metro TEXRail, which runs between Fort Worth and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, operates on the same schedule every day throughout the year. Its nine stations are located in Fort Worth, North Richland Hills and Grapevine

Trinity Metro orders 4 new Stadler trainsets for delivery in 2027. This will increase the fleet from 8 sets to 12 sets.... could 15min or 20min all-day frequencies be in the 4yr horizon?

Even just 30-min all day would be great, along with the addition of the super early and late trains that got sacrificed for the mid-day boost. I *think* I've read that 15-min are impossible due to single tracking. But 20 or 30 is great.

TEXRail had really strong ridership last month, per the Trinity Metro Ridership dashboard: https://ridetrinitym...oard/ridership/

 

80,292 rides in November. This was the first month of the new schedule, but I'm sure other factors like the Parade of Lights and other events helped drive that traffic. 

 

TEXRaill's highest ever ridership was November 2023, where it hit 83,071 riders, but it was also free that month.

I've seen a lot of northbound eveining trains with higher crowds recently.  I'm guessing it gets heavy use from people going to Grapevine.

TEXRail has never exceeded TRE ridership before, but did come within 10,000 riders last month. I wonder if it could beat TRE this December? Lots of people going to the airport, lots going to Grapevine, and more days of operation than the TRE has might push it over the top in December.

Trinity Metro is offering free rides for New Year's Eve.

 

It'd be nice to take TEXRail to Sundance Square for their NYE celebration... but the last TEXRail train leaving Central Station is now 10:47pm. TM isn't planning special event trains.

 

There's no way I'm driving to Sundance Square on New Year's Eve, and I don't want to deal with Lyft / Uber.

 

So, I'm probably going to attend Harvest Hall's celebration again.

Actually even a TCU station would make it convenient for me.  I could take the #6 bus a couple miles to Berry Street.  The stop for the #6 is a 5 minute walk from my house.  I've done TexRail + #6 bus home from the airport but that ride from downtown on the #6 is needlessly long.

I'd be curious if they've ever done a study to see how many TCU staff and students would regularly use public transportation and/or a train?  It would certainly help with gameday parking options too assuming the hike from the station to the stadium wasn't too far.  Would certainly help with the zoo parking situation during Spring Break too.

The hike from the TCU station to the stadium is about as far as it can be.  The station is several blocks east of the easternmost boundary of the campus, and Amon Carter Stadium is on the far western boundary of the main part of the campus.  However, on game days, I have seen people walking from the area of the station to the game.

To add on football fans abusing these trains, Amon Carter Stadium has a seating capacity of 47,000. TexRail trains have a seating capacity of 299, standing room only capacity of 488. 

Some math follows, 47,000 / 488 = 96 trains.

At 2 trains per hour arriving from the north, every 30 minutes, it would take 48 hours of trains to fill the stadium.

Of course, not every football fan will arrive by trains, but if even 10% do it will take 4.8 hours of trains to deliver 4,700 fans.

10% of TCU football game attendees are not going to take the train and walk a mile to a game and in September, when the temperature has a good chance of being in triple digits, I would be surprised if 10 people did it.  Students walk or Uber and everyone else takes advantage of the high amount of available parking that is relatively easy to get to.  I don't think anyone here or anywhere else is touting TCU football as a primary reason to expand TEXRail.

I've always heard of a big contingent of TCU fans taking Dart/TRE to SMU for the Iron Skillet games. I'm sure any alum/fans along the route would take it if there was a shuttle option. There's already others from various spots around town.

FWIW, I’ve seen TCU students riding the TexRail during the holidays clearly going to or coming back from the airport. When the line is extended it doesn’t seem far fetched for a school with the resources to have a shuttle service circling the dorms going towards the station. That same shuttle could be used for game days, graduation, and other special events.

Correct. As someone who has volunteered at Paschal on multiple occasions, I have always been surprised at how many people have used this park/ride setup.
