Spiritually-Uplifting Places Around Fort Worth

I'll go out on a limb and state an obvious favorite one of mine: The Trinity Trails between Rogers Rd and SW Blvd. A few times while biking along here, time seemed to almost stand still for a few minutes. I would describe it as "contemplative." For those that know what big sky country means, it just seems that the sky is bigger here and the sunsets out do themselves every time. I've always found that tree-lined stretch of Rockwood Park Dr. between Bailey Ave and the cemetery to be quite peaceful too. Trinity Trails have been my "reset button" for several years.

Great topic. Thank you, Nixitope. I have two. And both make me tear up to visit or even think about. One is the historic Travis Avenue Baptist Church on Berry Street. If you know the history of that amazing institution, you know what influence it has had on the history of Fort Worth and the whole world Christian community. The other is Greenwood Cemetery. I introduced myself to this forum many years ago trying to identify old pictures of my grandfather and Amon Carter at the Fort Worth Club. My family has a plot just immediately southwest of the Carter family's mausoleum. Mr. Carter, and my grandfather, who was a partner at Nicholson Jones Lincoln Mercury formerly on Henderson, purchased the plots together in the '40's according to family lore. My mom passed very recently and we buried her in that group of plots along with several of my long passed relatives. Greenwood is really beautiful and gives me great spiritual comfort and uplifts me.

I have recently had a few of those experiences walking along the West Fork from Airfield Falls to the Riverbend Nature Area and back. I have only started to explore this area and really enjoy it because it is not congested with people but is not completely desolate either. It doesn't feel like I am in the middle of a city.
I also really have good vibes while at Eagle Mountain Lake Park and enjoying sunsets at Marion Samson Park.

I think the Japanese Gardens and the Water Gardens downtown are obvious and great choices, downtown in particular if you are there earlier in the morning it can be very zenful. Another place I thought was neat to wander around was the Wat Buddharatanaram up near Watunga, obviously very calming when the monks are active in the temple. As for parts on the trail, I am personally a big fan of the stretch through gateway park, when riding my bike to work the crispness along the river in the morning and a little fog on the river before leaving the park and opening up to the city is a great start to the day.

Not in Fort Worth proper, but one of my happy places is Founders Plaza at DFW Airport. I enjoy watching the activity and I find the constant changes in noise calming. I haven't spent much time there lately with the year long closure of 18R/36L since Founders is at its best when the traffic is in south flow and that runway is being used for arrivals. I think it's due to open soon.

One of my favorite places for solitude I went to as a child (and later as an adult) was Z Boaz Park off the old Benbrook Highway not too far from where I reside. This park has dirt trails that go deep into wooded areas and the northern part past the pedestrian bridge is virtually wilderness at present. I know that will change, eventually, as the city ever decides to spruce it up.

I'm not Mormon. But it was announced that the LDS church will build a "Temple" in Fort Worth. In the past Mormon Temples were always huge buildings. (They are not the same as places of worship that Mormons go too every Sunday. As they are typical church size) And only in large cities. So for Fort Worth to get a Temple is a very big deal for that faith community. But in recent years they built Temples that are smaller. So I don't know how big or small the Fort Worth Temple will be ? Dallas has a LDS Temple that the whole North Texas LDS members would go too. https://www.google.c...HDLDWjUOMdZA3cm

The temple is really in Burleson, just south of the HEB.

I was wondering where they landed on for this project. For some reason from snooping on TAD a while back, I thought it might have been Colleyville but I never bothered to check Johnson County records.

Architecturally, sort of a cross between Greenwood Mausoleum, Stockyards Chic, and The Tarrant County Courthouse.

Also, mentioned in the article was an interview with one of the organization's oldest living FW members mentioned the former chapel with potential still-hidden baptismal font under the floor at the corner of Clinton St. and NW 21st. It has been converted back and forth from church to residence a couple times.

Here's a photograph of the historic church by B.F. Maupin.
This low resolution photograph is a part of the listing for the structure at 2024 Clinton Ave. It actually has a page on the website. I didn't consider this a violation by posting a residence, since it has changed periodically to a church. However, if the owner requested me to remove the page, I would do it.
