In Topic: The Comings and Goings of FW Restaurants

The only thing I can think of in the location described is that Italian place that was around Camp Bowie and Tremont...Tuscany, maybe? I don't think it was around in the time frame Mr Sievers is talking about though.

Wow, this takes me back. Use to ride my bike up to that Skillerns. The 5-10-25 store next door was a Motts. The Motts caught fire in the 80's (maybe?) and and burned to the ground very quickly. Somebody told me it was because of the varnished wood floors. I can still smell that store in my mind lol. On the other end of this shopping center was an Ashburns Ice Cream store. First place I ever tried orange sherbet.

Sorry for the topic derail, but thanks for the memory.

In Topic: Sheraton Arlington Hotel Redevelopment (500-room Loews-branded hotel, 735-spa...

Not that this has much to do with this topic, but that octagon shaped building on the far north end of the Sheraton property is one of the only structures from Seven Seas still standing (I assume it's still there). Last time I was there they were using the building for meetings/events.

In Topic: New Isis Theater to be Refurbished??

28 November 2023 - 08:08 AM

I've played some gigs at the Isis, last one in September and had one scheduled for January. Just got word that gig is off, obviously.

This is really a drag. They did such a monumental job rebuilding the theatre (restoring is not a strong enough word; I saw the shape it was in before).

I just hope there will be a future there, and it's not left to rot like LaGrave field.

Maps like these always become a rabbit hole for me...

I did find this. The dates don't quite match up to the date on the map, but the time line seems pretty in the ballpark.

History

Sycamore Park, 2525 E. Rosedale Street, 76105 Sycamore Park, originally named Glenwood Park, is located in southeast Fort Worth along Sycamore Creek. Because of its natural qualities, park planner George Kessler recommended that the park board acquire this property for park purposes. Glenwood Park was one of the first parks purchased by the new park board. On July 17, 1909, Ed Seibold sold 43.03 acres for $30,121. An additional 40.74 acres was purchased from G. W. and C. F. Seibold, Ed Seibold’s brothers, for $32,592. 174

At the time of purchase, Glenwood Park was outside of the city limits but was annexed into the city in January 1910. A committee of citizens from Highland Addition petitioned the park board to change the park’s name from Glenwood to Sycamore Park in order to avoid confusion with the east side community known as Glenwood and in the hopes of increasing its popularity. The board approved the name change at its meeting of July 1, 1911. 175
