This building doesn't appear to be architecturally or historically significant.

At 2:20am this morning, the Fort Worth Fire Department received multiple calls of a commercial building on fire in the 700 block of North Main Street (just outside of Downtown). There were also reports that two people were inside the building.

Upon arrival, crews found a very large, vacant 2-story warehouse well-involved with heavy fire. The Incident Commander called for a second alarm and crews cleared the building of any possible victims. Firefighters fought the fire defensively for close to 75 minutes before it was brought under control.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and there were no injuries to firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

This was the building that caught fire.  To the left is a vacant building that had a roof collapse quite some time ago with a tree growing just behind the wall.  To the right is Tim Love's Catering business.

I would say there should be a Plan B for the area, but like much in Fort Worth that I've observed over the past two years, there doesn't appear to be a person who is leading the charge and making things happen by utilizing influence.  I doubt there is a plan B.  It's easy to miss deadlines and shift blame when a multi-headed hydra is shaping and building the Panther Island project with no one clearly steering the ship.  The Hoover Dam was completed in 5 years, 2 years early.  We're in different times now.

Letting Kay Granger's son run the project for way too many years was a huge detriment to the project.  The whole thing has been mismanaged from the start.

I agree completely.

Yet I'm still pro-Panther Island, and I support its timely completion. Panther Island has huge potential to serve as a role model for walkable, central-city urban revitalization in otherwise-sprawling cities. While some changes have been made from the original Bing Thom-designed plan, I greatly appreciated his urban planning and architectural philosophies. The whole concept of adapting Vancouverism to a Sun Belt city like Fort Worth was absolutely fascinating.

I do expect funding cutbacks with the incoming administration, which could hamper plans to complete the bypass channel; the realization of Panther Island as a whole relies on the completion of the bypass channel, which has been holding up the entire project. Inflation has also eroded the value of any funding already allotted. Fortunately, the three signature bridges are already in place, but there are other preliminary projects that must be completed (utility relocations, raising University Drive, etc.) before the bypass channel can be built. As for a Plan B, this Alternative Plan proposed by Citizens Who Care way back in 2006 would have lacked the bypass channel, but it relied on raising the levees. Changes to the Panther Island plan have fortunately highlighted an area of North Main (and surrounding blocks) that can move forward without the bypass channel; development here should be encouraged ASAP.

Exactly.

As much as I may hate the idea, I'm getting more and more disappointed that Amazon didn't at least take a look at the area.

Thoughts on Bezos aside, his assets would help at least a little.

Yeah, that would be big "no".  Amazon HQ2 has been a huge flop.  The New York half of the project was cancelled and the Virginia campus has been scaled back to about half of what was originally planned.  Even if COVID had not happened, I'm not sure they ever intended on building that much of the original plan.  A big government hand out to a company that didn't need it and eventually under delivered would have set TRV back even further.

That's too bad about the building adjacent to Tim's, it was one of the few remaining historic structures on the island that felt like it contributes to the character on Main St.

Brian Luenser has some dramatic video posted on his Facebook page.  When I was online yesterday morning, I saw his posts and realized it was the other two vacant buildings in the same block that caught on fire this time.  The buildings that burned this weekend were the Royal Crown Bottling Co.  (Who remembers RC Cola?)  The building that burned a few days ago was the home of Panther Sign Co. for a time.

I think Long Island City basically rejected the AMZN proposal and it then split, with the higher end offices goingt to Roslyn/Arlington, VA and the back offices going to Nashville.  I think the Nashville part was built.
