My annual Christmas tradition is to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to post a photograph of the Sundance Square Plaza Christmas Tree.  This year, I was at the Stockyards for a birthday party, so I thought I would post their tree this year. We walked around the area a lot, and this is not the only photograph that I took of their lights.  I also walked around the Shops at Clearfork after work one day to see their lights.  Now the cold weather has caught me.  At least it feels like Christmas.

Merry Christmas from the Fort Worth Stockyards!

This is a long story, so you don't have to read this.  I actually had plans to walk around various places to see and photograph the decorations, but my friend Kalleen gave me a cutting of one of her tropical plants that had gotten out of hand.  I put it in a large pot and placed it with some of my other tropicals next to a south facing window.  On December 3rd, I was watering them, but I had to move a pot away from the window.  When going back to get more water, I tripped and fell over the pot that I moved out of the way.  I really hurt my knee on that day, and I had a lot of trouble walking that weekend.  The forum members who showed up on the Downtown Walking Tour on the 10th were made aware that I was able to lead it, but I was having some trouble walking and it was painful to go up and down stairs.  I made the 3.8 miles of the tour, but I paid the price in the coming days.  The birthday dinner was on the 13th, and we decided to drive and walk around to see the lights.  We walked quite a bit at the Stockyards, and I grabbed a number of photos.  The only other place I went after that night to see the lights was at the Shops at Clearfork.  I'm hoping with the warmer weather after Christmas, I can get back to the Stockyards and other places to get better pictures.  As for my knee, it is healing up nicely.  I can now walk up and down stairs with only a little discomfort and walking on flat ground is easy.

Again, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and enjoys the holiday.

John, glad to know your knee is starting to feel better.  Take some well-deserved rest during the holidays and hit 2023 strong.

I thought about you and your Stockyards photo this afternoon as I made a quick bypass through downtown on my journey out of town and I was able to grab this very impromptu drive-by photo of the Sundance Square Christmas Tree.  Please forgive the wonky tilt correction, I had only a split second to shoot this and was suprised I got what I got, but I didn't want to crop off the top of the tree so I rotated the entire image.  There appeared to be a couple people taking in the sights and sunny weather today.

The tree looks nice in the daytime.  My knee is almost 100%.  Our office was closed on Friday and will be closed on Monday.  I took Thursday off because I had three days of vacation to burn off.  I will have Thursday, Friday, and Monday off for New Year's.  The weather is forecast to be warmer, so maybe I will be out and about a little more.  (I don't like cold weather.)

Grinchs' Advocate: DFWI should secure a public spot downtown and plant a "living christmas tree", probably an Afghan Pine or similar, that could be used year after year as the official city tree. I would suggest Burnet Park as the location, with two trees planted, one this upcoming year and another at the other end of the park in about 20 years... the second tree could take over for the first when it reached the end of it's life cycle and another, new tree planted at that time. This effort would fit in nicely with my previous comments that I believe Fort Worth should position itself as a hub of renewable energy and sustainable development industries, eventually replacing the current emphasis on fossil fuel exploration and development. A concurrent project to plant trees throughout the city in a planned and (sidewalk...) sustainable manner would make the city an even more desirable place to live year-round, but especially in the summer.

Austin, I saw your Cook Children's Hospital photographs on your social media, and that reminded me that we also drove through their campus after the Stockyards.  I didn't take any pictures because it was crowded and we were driving.  I went back the next Saturday, but did not stop to take pictures because I couldn't find a place to park on the street that was close.  I'm hoping that with warmer temperatures this week, I can make it back to all of the light displays to take better photographs after dark.

Just curios is there a way to have ALL topic settings to display NEWEST comment top of the list.  I have been struggling to get the most recent comment to display at top. Some threads start off with old first  so I have to page through 8 or 9 to get to newest comment.  Some start of with newest first.

Thanks in advanced.

This isn't precisely what you have in mind, but it might be helpful. I use the New Content view whenever I read the Forum. When you click on the name of a thread, it picks up where you left off, taking you the next unread post and skipping over everything you've already read.

I would agree that is best practice for Forum viewing.  My muscle memory is trained to go this route for viewing new content and seems to be the best approach for keeping tabs on the Forum discussions.  One thing I've rarely done in as many years as I've been here is "Follow a Thread."  Not sure why, I guess I don't really care to get up to the second notifications.  Is that through email or text?  One time I set-up a filter in gmail and programmed it to text me if a certain keyword was in the subject field but with push notifications from most apps / accounts, I rarely end up using that for anything anymore.  Plus with digital fatigue you sort of grow numb to getting just another text or email unless it is really important.  The one that annoys me is the Ring App and Nextdoor app....another lost dog, more possible gun shots, another porch pirate etc etc.

I do the same as elpingüino and Nitixope.  I go directly to the View New Content link when the Forum opens up.

Nextdoor and neighborhood focused Facebook groups are ridiculously repetitive. Lost pets and coyote sightings abound, although my personal favorite, reports of "explosions", have finally subsided.

I was telling John the other day how much I appreciate the Forum but I find Nextdoor exhausting to try and have any sort of intelligent conversation.  I even had one person accuse me of being the developer for a massive residential project simply for posting a link to the project.  A friend of mine own's a business in FW and he's in a situation where he needs to sell due to deferred maintenance outpacing his ability to keep up with the costs of repair.  He proceeded to have the neighborhood association tear his buyer/suitor a new one in front of the zoning commission.  Now he's contemplating if Fort Worth is the right place for him moving forward and likely will take any offer that doesn't require rezoning.  I caught wind of it on Nextdoor before the ZC to give him a heads-up but it was too late.  They completely killed the deal.
