JBB, back in 2020 they caught some criticism for their hip hop inspired menu.

Anybody been to Lola's Cuban yet? I love Cuban/island food and, maybe it's just because I'm starving right now, but their menu looks great.

Giving an update on Forest Park location for Enchiladas Ole, we could not come to an agreement with landlord not assisting with all the money we spent on adding air conditioning to the dining room and kitchen this past summer, so therefore that location is being relocated to downtown Fort Worth! With plenty of parking! Stay tuned! Keep supporting all locally owned restaurants!
We hope to open within 2 weeks! In the meantime, Margaritas are still on the house at our Camp Bowie Enchiladas Ole!!!

Not saying that isn't the case, but they cited similar landlord concerns with the North Richland Hills location and have never opened the location they said they were relocating to in the meantime.

2 weeks? I haven't seen any signage permits filed, alcohol distance checks etc. Also, "plenty of parking" downtown, I'm curious to know which site.

Not Fort Worth, but Zafiros in Colleyville shut down the last couple of weeks. It got some early buzz amongst the locals there because the chef was connected to the Felipe Armenta restaurants. They struggled from the get go and went through a few rounds of price cuts and pleading for business on social media. I'm in a few foodie Facebook groups for that area and the family owned places on 26 are regularly posting about their struggles. The locals are using this as evidence that area can't support small businesses the way that Southlake and Grapevine do.

I'm not a fan of it either. Several years ago, there was a local restaurant that had been in business forever and had some issues with equipment failure and aesthetic issues with the exterior of their building that they said they could not afford to rectify. They took their story of the buisness being in danger to social media and one of the followers started a Go Fund Me and solicited volunteers for some of the work. I'm all for being kind and helping others, but if a for-profit business has been open for decades and doesn't have a plan for repairs and equipment replacement, it might be time to get out of the business. I'm not going to name the restaurant since they've changed ownership and seem to have gotten their act together in recent years.

Pretty sure this is a new restaurant in downtown Colleyville. Per Google maps, there's been a few recent places in this spot: McCuskers, Tribeca American Bistro and Lounge, Sonsie House Kitchen.
Not sure if there's any correlation to the European La Penela or just piggyback on the name? https://www.lapenela.com/restaurantes/

If I'm not mistaken, they are out of Florida and have frachised out to owners elsewhere. I've heard nothing but good things about the Grapevine location. It's in the old Cotton Patch on Main St.
I could totally "house" just about anything on that menu right now. I looked at another location and it had nearly pristine reviews of 4.9 stars.
I think it was "Fun on the Run with Yolanda's" local show that highlighted their Dallas location and backstory about the star-shaped stuffed pizza. It was actually quite a compelling and interesting story about the fellow's dream to do this but I need to dig through a hundred ticktok reviews to find that one and post it if it's the place I was thinking of. I recall that star-shaped crust and people ranking and raving about it. How about opening one in 76107 or 76104 or there abouts? I'm not even going to suggest 76102 right now, maybe Uno's old sp....nevermind, forget it.

Minnesota-based coffee chain expanding in North Texas. I think they have / had a location at DFW too but this would be likely a first of its kind as a stand-alone shop, replacing the recently-opened (2023) but now closed Scooter's Coffee Shop here: https://maps.app.goo...LNmK1xwYcZKnqW8

I've been twice. It's been good. It's not great. But my preference is La Playa Maya. I know everyone's tastes buds are different.

I guess Oven & Cellar is coming back / didn't even know it was gone. (Sidenote: probably it's just me, but I've never been a fan of the [noun] & [noun] branding of anything, food or otherwise. Is it just hip marketing? )Record PO25-00047:Occupancy Change of UseRecord Status: Plan ReviewProject Description:COU// NO PREVIOUS CO// REMODEL ( RE-PERMIT PB18-14632// RESTAURANT TO RESTAURANT// NO ELECTRICAL RELEASE NEEDEDPermit Address150 THROCKMORTON ST
When we first moved back to Fort Worth in fall of 2022, we noticed Oven and Cellar in that spot which appeared to be under construction. Even today, brown paper covers the windows and the sign above the door is still in place. Glad to see a new restaurant on that side of downtown. Chop House burgers nearby is really good, but Wild Salsa was a "meh." Maybe it was just an off day for them when we visited.

If noun & noun restaurants are hip, then do all my years of eating at Fox & Hound (RIP) and Steak & Shake mean I've been trendy all along?

Steak n Shake gets a pass because they dont use an ampersand:If noun & noun restaurants are hip, then do all my years of eating at Fox & Hound (RIP) and Steak & Shake mean I've been trendy all along?(Sidenote: probably it's just me, but I've never been a fan of the [noun] & [noun] branding of anything, food or otherwise. Steak and Ale on the other hand.they clarify in the name that its a restaurant in case there was any confusion to the person reading the sign what they were walking into:
