I'm glad he spoke up.  Downtown does need to be re-energized.

Mr. Gatti's is not going into the building where Samwon Garden is located.  It appears that everything on the east side of the site is addressed 5201 McCart.  The pizza place is going into the easternmost lease space of the larger building on the south side of the site.  Originally, that space was occupied by Mitchell's Department Store.  They were a junior department store here locally.  When that center was built, the larger building had a Thrify Cut-Rate Drug store in the west space, where Van Markle Plumbing Supply is currently located.  In the center was a Buddies Super Market along with their Handy Man Center Hardware Store, and on the east end, was Mitchell's.  Buddies was bought out by Winn-Dixie and the store changed names then.  When they built an even larger store at Westcreek & Walton, the space later became the McCart Thrift Center.

This is only the ground floor.  The upper two floors are still boarded up.

Cantina Cadillac Bar is looking to reopen sometime in August.  That will put it at a year+ for reopening.  WFAA has the story.

Mr. Gatti's Pizza is going to open at 5201 McCart in the old Mitchell's space.  This is the same center where Auto Zone took most of the space of the old Buddies/Winn-Dixie Supermarket.

I like the new lighting.  It is going to liven up a dull garage.

If you look at the aerial photograph that I have included, you can see that the parking garage takes up the eastern 2/3 of the block.  This addition will add another drive with parking on either side, completing the block.  A driving lane with parking on each side is usually considered a parking bay.  I think the photograph is pretty self explanatory.

I just now went through it.  There is a lot of information inside it.  Thanks for sharing it with the forum.

One of the things in this plan that I appreciate is the willingness to put the parking underground.  Even though it is the most expensive option, it almost completely hides the parking garages.  It also opens up more land for plazas, landscaping, or structures.

Hopefully, the demolition has stopped.  Since it is part of a City of Fort Worth Historic District, demolition is not permitted.  The Landmarks Commission will hear the case to determine if it has lost its architectural integrity, or if it is appropriate to demolish the building,  Only after the Landmarks has approved the demolition, it would be appropriate to demolish the building.

I went back over to Albertson's this afternoon and saw the facade with good lighting on it.  I honestly think they should have never covered it up. It looks much better now than the metal roof cover on the awning.

Here are two photographs of the building after the opening, taken on June 2, 2024.  The first is by day and the second is by night.
