At the end of tonight's Channel 8 News, it was stated that this was their last Sunday broadcast from their Victory Park Studios.  I was wondering if they were just going to shift the Sunday night news back to their main studios on Young Street in Downtown Dallas, or they were leaving Victory Park.  It turns out they are leaving Victory Park officially in January.  At that time, the station will unveil a new studio on the second floor of their current building in Downtown Dallas.  They lease the studio space in Victory Park and they own their building at 606 Young St. in Downtown Dallas.  With the rents rising in Uptown, I'm sure a lot of the reasoning behind closing the studio was economic.  Below is a link to a free story online about the move.

I'd expect something else to take that spot regarding entertainment and television... seems like too good a spot to just up and leave.

That's unfortunate. On occasions when I go to Dallas, I often stop by Victory Plaza to watch the news and Pete Delkus do the weather before catching the last TRE train to Fort Worth.

But, I'd imagine it's not efficient for WFAA to have its main studio a mile away from its main newsroom. And, WFAA has a secondary newsroom in Fort Worth. So, they're currently operating out of three locations.

It was a cool concept, but I don't know that it ever paid off since the plaza doesn't get a lot of traffic outside of event nights at the arena.  I've always thought that their skyline view from 7th Street is more interesting and they could easily do something similar at the Young St. studio.  I'm assuming that they still do live shots from their 7th Street newsroom and don't do that from Young since I might watch local news a couple of times a month.

Speaking of Victory Park... a couple of visits ago, I discovered that Victory Park has no tables to sit down at... nor any chairs to sit on.

It's not a pleasing place to spend time at unless you're watching the news.
