Appears that it will be U shaped with a central plaza, up to 6 retail slots, totaling 10k sq ft, and the 3 floors on the left will contain 12 residential units.

I'm guessing the Bart Shaw design didnt make the cut. This is the design from the Near South video.

This building will have a Potbelly Sandwhich Shop. If that comes to fruition, there will be a Subway, Jimmy Johns, Firehouse, and Potbelly within one block of each other. Construction should start soon.

It's more like the "Submarine Sandwich District". This will not please one of my cycling friends. He is already disappointed with the way the intersection of 8th and Rosedale has evolved. He will not eat at Chipotle because of their food scare. He dislikes Jimmy John's. He is not fond of that particular Subway location, and he thinks they ruined the old bank building by putting a Starbucks and a Firehouse Subs in it.

It was not an "old" bank building. It was a fairly new one that was vacant. I will agree with you that the intersection is a haven of corporate chain schlock. However, I don't constantly rant about how bad the intersection is every time I pass through. My friend has a tendency to do this.
Posted 14 October 2016 - 05:48 PM
It is a large intersection and very pedestrian unfriendly due to the size of the streets. I wouldn't have expected more interesting restaurants to succeed there anyway.
Posted 14 October 2016 - 06:00 PM
I will admit that I would have designed things differently at that intersection, if I had such a project. It is very pedestrian unfriendly with some poorly designed buildings. We should expect better.
Posted 14 October 2016 - 08:16 PM
All of that being said, I like the building housing Jimmy John's and the doughnut shop. It's quirky and more urban than a lot of other buildings in town.
Posted 14 October 2016 - 09:05 PM
It's the only building at, or near the corner, that I like.
Posted 15 October 2016 - 03:22 AM
I like the first 2 schemes better.....very modern. The final scheme seems more blah and they tried to spice it up w/ those currently trendy sloping mid-century looking rooflines. Maybe the office block could face 8th, the residential tower away from 8th on the east side. It would be nice if Oleander were extended through and the plaza opened onto that street to connect more w/ the southside area. BTW, I like the Jimmy Johns building too.....seems more inventive than most in that area...wish they screen the electrical boxes on that south wall though!

Trent Prim, who was interviewed in the article is a good friend of mine. I have worked with him both professionally and as Board Members of Historic Fort Worth.

I like the building design. Wonder whether to characterize it as "airy" or "transparent," because of the predominance of glassed windows and doors.

A demolition permit was filed for 1199 8th avenue, the Touch Stone imaging building. Curious to see what takes place of the building.
Just glancing at TAD, it looks like the owner of this property owns several neighboring properties on that block.

Whether artist, sculptor, or architect, one has to be applauded for showing immagination in a creation. Having stated that, I, as a viewer, do not like the Phase II buiilding design.
Posted 12 December 2016 - 09:49 AM
Doesn't exactly invite you in, does it?
Posted 13 December 2016 - 09:36 AM
Maybe if they incorporate some ambient lighting into the building it could soften it?
Posted 13 December 2016 - 09:59 AM
I would have thought this would do a little more to satisfy everyone that says that everything being built on the Southside looks the same since it is pretty unique. That being said, I'll hold judgement based on the fact that this is a terrible and unrealistic rendering. It might not look as bad when it blends more into whatever is or will go in around it.
Posted 13 December 2016 - 12:23 PM
I don't think the first rendering is all that inviting to the eye, either. As to the new rendering I can't get out of my mind a vision of a gigantic bird cage or maybe, in miniature, one of those makeshift boxes that kids might put together to trap a game bird or rabbit for food. Maybe this is unkind of the architect. JBB, I don't think camouflage is the solution here.

I noticed that today after leaving the Fort Worth Forum Meeting.

I meant to head back up 8th after Benitios. I caught sight of the new pitched roof just as I was turning onto Magnolia on the way to the Forum Meet.

Seeing the building up close, the copper color is horrible right now--hopefully it will age well

An imaginative building design. Seems like the modern look is to be glassy, transparent, less privacy on the inside. What color other than copper?
Posted 10 October 2017 - 02:27 PM
I'm just a simple lawyer, I have no ideas on the color that would look good

I think it is pretty interesting. I like the Phase 1 based on the rendering. I think open feel to it is nice. I am trying to get on Board with II, with the fins being the blues is a bit nicer and softer but I can't decide if I would have brought them down as far, can't decide. I was surprised to them using slipforms ... haven't seen that in a while!
