I haven't kept up with TCU football this year as much as others, but it sure did seem like there were a lot of signs that the end was near: bad losses, players involved sideline altercations in more than 1 game, appeared to be defensive with the media (or at least the media made it sound that way). Twenty plus years is a long time in a coaching stop and he got a lot of benefit of the doubt when they hit their slide over the last few years because of his record. There is no doubt whatsoever about the mark he left on the city much less the university.

Replacing Coach P. will be very difficult. I'm afraid most will want the TCU football job to use it as a stepping stone to get a bigger job, rather than stay and build TCU like Coach P did. Coach P was on the top list for other football programs many times. But he stayed ! Not many would turn down more money like Patterson did.
If the Fort Worth economic department was a football team. That head coach would be out also. I even said on October 3rd in the corporate relocation thread that Coaches that can't win games gets fired analogy. We need a big shakeup in Fort Worth economic department also.
( I even heard SMU head Coach Sonny Dykes is in the mix of potential replacements ? )

You start winning in a bigger program you get bigger paychecks. I highly doubt TCU could outdo a SEC school that has a bigger alum to draw from to up the ante. Not to mention Patterson contract extended till 2023.

GP was making over $7 million a year for what it is worth when you add in incentives.

Potential candidates:
- Sonny Dykes (SMU)
- Bill Napier (Louisiana)
- Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina)
- Mike Elko (A&M defensive coordinator)
- Joey McGuire (Baylor assist.)
- Justin Fuente (VaTech)
- Brent Venables (Clemson defensive coordinator)
Unlikely, but has been thrown around:
- Jeff Traylor (UTSA... but has already signed an extension)
- Sean Payton (Saints... I know that's WAAAAAAY out of the box and pie-in-the-sky, but if he didn't also sign his extension, that would have been echoed since he still had a house in Westlake and worked with TCU during the last hurricane)

Add Deion Sanders to the list
Remove Justin Fuente
Deion is a LONG shot... I'd honestly rather him keep up with the work of building back up the HBCUs and being part of that movement.

Jeff Traylor appears to be staying put and Joey McGuire ended up at Texas Tech. I would be surprised if SMU allows Sonny Dykes to get away. Deion Sanders is getting more buzz after interviewing for the job. He would be a big splash hire, but I don't disagree with Jeriat about his importance in his current position.

SMU hasn't exactly had a good track record of keeping good coaches for a long time, lately. Still VERY MUCH possible he takes the TCU job.
