#138630 Main Street Arts Festival

Posted by beverlyb on 21 March 2022 - 03:07 PM

We still need lots of volunteers for the Fort Worth MAIN ST Arts Festival, April 7 - 10. bit.ly/msasignup2022 or https://www.mainstre...er-for-main-st/

This year MAIN ST will still stretch from the courthouse to the convention center. It looks like MAIN ST will not have any programming in Sundance Square. The layout has been reimagined. There's still the same number of artists, food vendors, and music stages. There will not be a young people's art fair on Saturday and Sunday this year, but besides not using the square, that's about all that is different.

The two year COVID break and the loss of so many downtown employees has really done a number on the volunteer email list. If you can't volunteer, maybe you have family or friends that might what to help out. I mean you do get a free t-shirt :smwink:

Thats great, I love the Main Street art festival. Glad its coming back.

I am, too!  I would like to volunteer for at least one shift but nothing on the event's volunteer website allows you to sign up.

Volunteer sign up should be up next week 2/7 or the following. How do I know, I'm the volunteer manager for this event.

#134651 Future project near Pier 1 building?

Posted by beverlyb on 31 August 2021 - 05:04 PM

Much to my annoyance, I received an email while I was on vacation. The email said I would have to pay my Broadstone on 5th apartment rent by money order or cashier's check this month. Today I found out why. Broadstone is now being managed by Madera Residential. I've been here since February 2019, and this is the second management company change. This change comes with a name change.

According to the memo I just received, the name is changing to Braden on 5th.

After the first management change, the complex was not as clean. They must had received complaints, because it got better, but it still wasn't as clean as when I first moved in. However, some of that is on the tenants, since there are plenty of trash receptacles around the complex.

BTW - If I had to list one negative and one positive about Broadstone/Braden on 5th. The negative is that it has lousy soundproofing. The positive is the location is very central.

#133243 Sinclair Building Sold

Posted by beverlyb on 15 July 2021 - 10:57 AM

Last Tuesday, July 13th, the FW Downtown Neighborhood Alliance held their monthly event at the Sinclair.
Even though the rooftop is only open on weekends (with reservations) for now, they opened for a members-only event. It was very warm, but still well attended, with around 70 people.
The event started at 5:30 pm. There was a nice breeze but it was still warm. Everyone was served a glass of water.
The staff was great and really hustled to make sure we had a great event.
I am not a fan of heights. My pictures would probably be better, 1. if I wasn't using my phone, and 2. if I could have made myself stand closer to the railing.
The digital panel in the elevator is really cool, but someone was talking to me on the way up and down. I was distracted and didn't take a picture.

I can see this being a fun place to hang out when the temperatures are cooler.

Posted by beverlyb on 02 June 2021 - 03:07 PM

I just got a Facebook notice for a concert, The Special Edition Band, in Sundance Square. This coming Saturday, (the 5th) 6 - 10 pm. Looks like maybe Sundance is ready to open. Unfortunately it's supposed to rain.

#130221 New City Hall Site (Poll Now Irrelevant)

Here are the Pier One pictures I took earlier. Thanks Nitixope for the help. They're not fancy, just iPhone snaps.

When they took down the sign, they only did a few letters at a time. There was a lot of up and down on that bucket contraption.

#123572 TEXRail

Posted by beverlyb on 10 January 2020 - 12:46 PM

I recently used TEX Rail to go to the airport and come back. I took the bus to the train station, using the Summit and 7th ST stop. It was too early for the Dash, so I used Route two.

The bus was right on time. However, the bus driver made a 5 minute 7/11 stop for snacks.

Hauling a suitcase on the bus is not the best option, but doable. I'm not a fan of Uber or Lyft.

It cost me $10 to get to and from the airport. Not to shabby compared to an average of $70 to prepaid airport parking, $140 round -trip using a taxi, or $80 using the now out of business Super Shuttle.
Long term parking at T&P or Central Station would help. But the parking would have to be economical, around $5 every 24 hours and would need to have security.

Signage at the airport is awful. If I had not been on the train going to the airport, I never would have found it going back.

#123434 TCU: Speaking of the Berry St. Initiative

BTW the Cox's dept store site is up for sale now. The sale brochure mentions "Largest Potential Redevelopment Tract Available In TCU Area" & “BU-CX-6 Zoning Allows For A Variety Of Residential, Retail, Service And Commercial Uses At A Maximum Height Of 6 Stories"

My car is in one of the brochure pictures.  Still have the car...retired from the job!

#121161 Are Enclosed Malls Dying?

Posted by beverlyb on 16 September 2019 - 10:35 AM

About ten years ago, I used to go to the mall every weekend either on Saturday after the Y or Sunday after church. I haven't been inside a mall to shop in at least two years. I have been in Macy's to make a return.

Here are my reasons, in no particular order:

  1. Rowdy teenagers
  2. Online shopping is easier
  3. A realization that I have too much stuff.
  4. Being approached by strangers in the parking lot. However, this can happen at the grocery store lot too.
  5. Trying to stay out of debt.
