I had a front row view at David Archuleta's Trinity Pride performance yesterday. Somewhat surprising, considering that I found my spot only a few minutes before his performance started.

I wasn't an event photographer, so I'm a little shocked I managed to get so close with a camera capable of taking professional-quality photos! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy these amazing photos:
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I definitely had the time of my life. I was right next to the stage; David Archuleta even shook my hand twice!

Those are really good action shots.  I still have a hard time capturing anyone/anything moving, even if the lighting is better than ideal.  Always seems to turn out blurry.  I often wonder what artists think as they roll into North Texas and realize how hot it can get here, especially if they're coming in from a tour stop that is in a cooler climate.  I could think of worse places to perform outdoors: all of Florida, Phoenix, Houston.  We're still hitting the 70's at night so that's something to be thankful for.

The lighting helped a lot. It's definitely hard to get good action shots, especially when you need slower shutter speeds at night, along with the concern that a fast shutter speed will be too fast for the frequency of the lighting. If the shutter speed is too slow, you can run into blurry action shots, not to mention stabilization issues (these are handheld shots taken on a body without IBIS, and a lens without IS). Also, I rely on autofocus, so I'm focusing on the performer's face and eyes most of the time; areas away from there usually tend to be blurry, especially as wider apertures narrow the depth of field... although I did get plenty of "lucky" shots.

On the note of the heat, I'm pretty sure it was in the 80s (if not 90s) during David Archuleta's performance; he took the stage at 9pm. You can definitely tell how much he (and the other performers) are sweating in some of these photos. In fact, I recall one of the audience members near me saying "Take it easy, David!"

And yes, David Archuleta had just come from a tour stop in a cooler climate; the day before his Trinity Pride performance, he performed in the rain in Providence, Rhode Island.

Good shots! I walked over after dinner and didn’t mind the weather. I thought it was quite comfortable considering it’s June. The event was packed.

I hope Magnolia Green will continue to host events and musical performances for a long time. My soapbox: every neighborhood should have a public green space like this.

Nice shots! I didn't go to the festival but swung by when I was in the area and it looked like a great turnout.

Yeah, we didn't realize it was going on.  We grabbed dinner at Spice then walked down to Melt for some ice cream and noticed the Pride Fest attendees. While at Melt we looked it up and found the information about the festival.  Definitely a lot of activity due to Pride Fest but it was busiest around Magnolia Green.  I didn't mind; the line at Melt was pretty short.

I was the with my partner and we had a blast taking in the sights and grabbing some food from local chefs.  We had some awesome cajun food from a family from New Orleans.  The weather was great as well.  We did leave before David Archuleta came on because we are old and wanted to get a jump on the crowd.  There were some small protests against the event lead by Mercy Culture but we just let them be who they want to be.  It wasn't anything that we didn't already anticipate.

I will admit, Magnolia Green definitely got crowded as David Archuleta took the stage. It definitely felt tight at the front, but it wasn't anything crazy. I stood right next to the speakers, and I actually got a little concerned about my hearing since my ears felt funny for a short period afterwards (but my hearing did return to normal pretty quickly).

Speaking of the protests, they were small and nothing too concerning, in my opinion.

I highly recommend some reusable ear plugs found on Amazon. I find my ears never ring, filtering out a lot of background talking, the deep bass that I wince at, and still hear the music well. I’ve even put them in at loud sports bars or sporting events. Future you will thank you.
