"Why I love Fort Worth".

In today's Star Telegram (7/9/06) was printed the details of an amazing story of an institution, The Kimball Art Museum, which did the right and proper thing when confronted with a difficult situation. It fills me with hometown pride. This is a compelling story worth your time in reading.

Here is the Kimball's press release.

I agree, they did the right thing. And the current exhibition, a presentation of a fair chunk of the permanant collection is well worth seeing. I needed an "art break" about two weeks ago after a real hectic morning, and two hours strolling through the collection made the day. Go see it.

A nod to FW.  Gives me a feeling of pride every time.

Excerpted from the Fort Worth Business Press - “This is not just my first in person AFA event since the start of the pandemic, but it’s also my first time in Fort Worth and in Texas and I can’t think of a better place to be,” said Michèle Wije, curator of exhibitions at the American Federation of Arts". [AFA]

Well maybe with the exception of Houston, TX where nearly 200K residents are India(n). Modi visited Houston where the India(ns) packed a football stadium.  I expect a lot of India(ns) will make a weekend trip to FW from Houston.  Should boost local sales!

The AFA was founded on May 12, 1909. -  At a meeting on May 11, 1909, convened by the National Academy of Art’s[2] Board of Regents—among whom were President William Howard Taft, former president Theodore Roosevelt, Cecilia Beaux, Robert Woods Bliss, William Merritt Chase, Robert W. DeForest, Homer Saint-Gaudens, Charles L. Hutchinson, Archer M. Huntington, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, Leila Mechlin, Andrew W. Mellon, J. Pierpont Morgan, Francis D. Millet, Secretary of State Elihu Root, and Henry Walters, among others— Elihu Root called for the formation of an agency that would send “exhibitions of original works of art on tour to the hinterlands of the United States.”

Today, October 4, 2022, is the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Kimbell Art Museum.  It opened at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 4, 1972.  The building now meets the first criteria for historic designation at all levels.  Today, the museum is kicking off a week of celebration, with most of the events occurring this coming weekend.

Gerry Schwarz of Schwarz Hanson Architects sent this to me regarding the concept for the Kimbell Art Museum and how it relates to the grain silos situated around town.

Has the Kimbell done Christmas decorations before? I know the Modern Lights have been a big hit recently, but I don't remember the Kimbell doing anything.
