Some pretty huge news here, ISD is looking to get rid of a lot of property. Several of these properties are historic or in very urban areas.

https://www.star-tel...e237294369.html

Farrington Field is being already discussed in this thread

Several of these are fairly high profile,

The Boulevard Heights Transitional Center has a page on the website, http://www.fortworth...blvdheights.htm

The building on Magnolia represents a full block of frontage along the street, potentially a huge opportunity.

Some of the properties along University could be fantastic redevelopment opportunities supporting the TRV peripheral area.

"Underused and inefficient" would appear to be code for "more valuable on the market than remodeled and repurposed".

Is there a more desirable tract of land near with so many Fort Worth jewels nearby?....No there isn't.

FWISD will be able to get a pretty price for FF; asked so that it will not be turned into a piece meal tract of fast food and gas stations.  Please, Design and Review Board, not another 5 story box of apartments!

Right, which makes for a wise use of public funds.  Why should the school district restore old, dinosaur buildings when they could sell them and use the proceeds to build new ones?  Their mission is not historic preservation, it's education.

Keep the west facade with the friezes and I think it would make a pretty good spot for dense multi-family.

ST already has an editorial out,

https://www.star-tel...e237340954.html

Whatever gets built must fit in with the Cultural District and enhance, not distract from, Fort Worth’s key attractions.

And most of all, the district must preserve the stadium’s classic west facade, including art by Influential artist Evaline Sellors.

I'm definitely not faulting them for that, especially if some of the savings suggested by building a new administration facility are realized.  Just amused by the careful language.

Doohickie, historic preservation IS education.

I do agree with you that keeping the west facade is very important.  The rest of the stadium is rather plain.  For the record, Farrington Field is not landmarked with the City of Fort Worth in any fashion, not even Demolition Delay.

But it's not a tested subject so it doesn't matter in the public schools.

Does anyone remember the VLK concept?

https://vlkarchitect...ield-site-study

It seems like a great compromise, there's must be several million sqft of space in here, all while maintaining the field.

I am sure Farrington Field is nearing the end of its life without a very expensive overhaul.  No doubt the FWISD can get a pretty penny for this very valuable land.  Probably the time to do it.  The basketball gym is also very tired.

We started going to the annual Whataburger basketball tournament between Christmas and New Years at least 30 years ago and it was pretty worn out back then.  Still a really neat, old school venue.  I believe it has dugouts for the benches next to the court.

If the site can be developed into a venue for amateur sports such as something in the vein of an olympic training village, then that would be an attraction that would have regional and national consequences.  I would love it if the Big 12 and SEC Annual Soccer Tournaments were to be played here; how about at tennis stadium.  This site has an existing stadium and field house, all it needs is some added dormitories, and support structures.

Whenever and however Fort Worth can draw visitors to the City is going to be a better benefit to the local economy than yet another multi-residential block(s) of apartments.

Great job, Austin.  Here's a bit of trivia for you.  My firm, Halbach-Dietz Architects has worked on almost every one of those buildings for the FWISD.  We even designed the Metro Opportunity High School building from the ground up when it was built as a showroom, office, and warehouse for a private company.  I also have a personal connection to that business owner.

This last weekend, I took ground level photographs of all of the buildings.  This is so I would have a record of them.  Most are warehouses and are really not architecturally significant.

Boulevard Heights is one of the oldest buildings in the FWISD, the first section of which opened in 1909.  Portions of E.M. Daggett Elementary (which I believe is the longest continuously-operating school in the FWISD) are just as old.  I am hoping that Boulevard Heights gets preserved in some shape or form if it is sold.

Bud Kennedy

The Fort Worth ISD has sold the former Stripling & Coz department store at Berry/McCart for $9 million — no word on buyer

The district also officially sold Thomas Place Rec to the city for $1.4M and sold vacant land at Wichita/I-20 for $1.8M

Good, school districts need to be in the business of improving public education, not land speculation. What is not needed property-wise should be sold and in a transparent manner. Lots of naughty stuff going on in the FWISD administration, and other area ISDs in recent years; big need to clean that stuff up and get on with the business of improving education.

I have been waiting for this building to either be remodeled or reimagined.  It is a horrible looking structure and just didn't fit in with what is going on with along West Mag.

As much as I agree with you Jeriat, I wouldn't count on it.  Especially is they are going to build a pancake-plex on the site.

But how does timing work out?  If the buyer wants them out and a building isn't ready, they'll have to lease space somewhere I suppose.

Hopefully the neighborhood association doesn't object to a new multistory building on that lot. I expect they will tear down the building and replace it with apartments. Modifying a school (to add the plumbing for apartment units) would be incredibly costly.

Like most of the FWISD buildings that were sold, I have worked on this building when we redesigned the interior for the Young Women's Leadership Academy.  In my opinion, they should tear it down to build a residential complex that is compatible with the neighborhood.  This building is not in the National Register and City of Fort Worth Fairmount Historic District.  However, the district's boundaries come right up to this property.  Schaefer Advertising (the Dunn Haven Apartments) to the west, and everything across Magnolia are in the district.

Looks like the YWLA building will be gone soon,

Magnolia Highline
Demolition of existing structures and proposed new construction of a mixed-use building with approximately 6% retail space. Waiver for parking structure adjacent to right-of-way on Washington and Adams and reduction in the mix of use ratio from 10% non-residential to 6%.

This demolition doesn't surprise me.  This building was originally built as a small mental hospital and it was expanded at least three times.  The FWISD purchased the building and converted it into a school.  They later hired Halbach-Dietz Architects to convert the building into the Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA).  We wanted to do more with the building, but we were constrained by the budget.  The best we could do was to come up with a new paint scheme for the brick.

I haven't seen an article yet, but Bud Kennedy is reporting on Twitter that FWISD is moving administration into the old Neiman Marcus/International Newcomer's Academy building on Camp Bowie.

https://twitter.com/...621111649132550

I wonder where this leaves the Farrington sale since it's one their properties that hasn't been reported as sold and it was thought to be where administration would end up in the long term.

It popped up on my phone yesterday, along with some other people's phones in the office.  That is an interesting question about Farrington Field.  It also brings up the idea in my office in that we have worked on the FWISD Offices in their current building and we have worked on the International Newcomers Academy.  The big plus is that we could give the FWISD excellent customer service by being immediately across the street.  We will probably put in a pitch to the district for the renovation of the building.

Sending good vibes your way.  I'm guessing your competition would be BRW and VLK among others?

I rolled by Eastern Hills reno a few weeks ago and the GC looked neck-deep in it.  I bet there's some fun surprises working on a 60 year old building.

During the school board's announcement of the new zoning/feeder patterns on Tuesday, they said the district is trying to decentralize its administrative staff, moving them away to buildings across the district where theyll be closer to students and teachers. https://www.star-tel...e248878994.html

That's right across the street from my office!  Yes, it was the first Neiman Marcus store in Fort Worth.  It was also designed by Edward Larabee Barnes.

This is news to me.  The permit is confusing because the address is listed as 7000 Camp Bowie Blvd., which is that location.  However, the permit says it is the Demolition of the Central Administration Building, which is at 100 N. University Drive.  I know that the district had plans to relocate the administration offices into the building.  Maybe they determined that the site was still good, but the building couldn't be renovated to serve their needs.  I will see if I can find out more information this week.
