I realize this is behind the Star-Telegram Paywall, but a 50 years and 1 month ago, the Worth Hotel was imploded.  This was the first implosion of a major Downtown building.  Behind the hotel, and demolished earlier, was the Worth Theater, the city's largest. The hotel and theater were demolished to build the Fort Worth Club Tower.  If you can read the article and look at the photographs, please do so.

I will agree that it was a good article, and it was nice to see some of the historic photographs of the implosion.  This goes to show you how much I don't remember from 50 years ago when I was 15 years old:  I do remember that the theater portion of the building was demolished ahead of the hotel, so that the hotel could fall into the part of the site where the theater was located.  What I found out through the Star-Telegram archives, is the theater was actually imploded, as well.  I thought it was demolished by conventional means, but my memory was not serving me well.

Was this where the theater sat or am I turned around?

Here's a past discussion on the theater:

Yes, the hole for the hotel tower to fall into was the location of the theater.  It was the entire rear section of the building and was large enough to take up the space from Taylor Street all the way to the alley next to the Fort Worth Club.
