2950 W. Berry St. - 1960's; 1997 (Destroyed by Fire - March 2006)
The TCU Bookstore was constructed as a Safeway in the 1960's. Safeway left Texas in 1987 and the store was purchased by Tom Thumb. They operated a grocery store at this location until Albertson's opened a larger store diagonally across the intersection of University Drive and W. Berry Street. Shortly after the Albertson's opened, Tom Thumb closed this store. At that time, the property was purchased by Texas Christian University. They remodeled the building by adding a clock tower entry and converted it into the university's bookstore. The building was totally destroyed by fire on March 28, 2006.
