Formerly:
Hog and Sheep Pens
This concrete and wood structure was originally constructed as a facility to house hog and sheep pens. The livestock was held here until they were delivered to the Armour and Swift meatpacking plants one block to the east. For many years, these pens stood empty after the plants closed. In recent times, they have been cleaned and converted into retail and restaurant use. The building is now called Stockyards Station. The Station is a collection of small retail shops mixed in with local restaurants. Many of the restaurants have covered outdoor dining, since the building is not enclosed. The retail shops are generally tourist oriented, since the area attracts many out of town visitors. The Tarantula sightseeing train makes a stop just across the street from the building, as well.
