#88634 House behind the Pike Drive-in

Posted by 801hme on 26 November 2014 - 08:39 AM

This is being researched and talked about on FB; thought I'd see what info the knowledgable folks here could offer...

Back in the day, there was an old house or cabin behind the old Pike Drive-In theatre on East Lancaster in Handley. The house predated the Theatre by many years. HistoricAerials shows the house existing in the 1952 and 1956 aerial shots; it appears to be gone by 1963. The rock fireplace from the house still exists; it has been preserved by the present property owner. There has been some discussion that the original property owner was the McRae (sp?) family, of D. McRae school. Any info on the origins of the house/cabin or a backstory on this structure would be appreciated.

#79849 Track at Riverside and I-30?

That was a good idea, Ghost Writer, so I did. That property was listed as Lester D Hardin Livestock dealers in 1950, Hardin Riding Stables in 1952, and Reid Riding Stables in 1953. Before that apparently just bare land. So, now I know that... :smwink:

This is sort-of on topic...

Is my memory playing tricks on me, or does anyone else remember this:

Ranch Style Beans had a slightly different label on their cans back in the 1970s. Everything was exactly the same as it looks now, only back then the yellow splash on it said "Husband Pleasin'." Today it says "Appetite Pleasin," though it still shows the same cartoon image of a man licking his lips.

You are absolutely correct.

Does anyone know the correct origin/history of Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course? I have heard it was originally a country club, and that it opened in 1930. Spent many summer days at the pool where the front putting green is now. Does anyone know the true history?
