Old photo of St. Joseph Hospital

06 June 2010 - 12:38 AM

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I got an email a few days ago from someone stating that they had an old photo of St. Joseph Hospital. Here is the text of the email:

"Hi John would you know anyone that may want a large photo of the old st. Joseph hospital building I think it was taken in the early 80's i would rather give it to someone than trash it please let me know thanks.
I think its maybe 16in by something not sure now think it is rigid i worked at st. Joseph and was the very last employee from st. Joseph to work there and thats how i got the photo but i just really dont have place for it been stored for years"

That's all the info I have. I would go and retrieve it myself but I am not in Fort Worth these days so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone has an idea what should be done with that pic.
I haven't seen the picture so I don't know what it looks like. The above is all I know about it.

Let me know any ideas on what to do with this picture.

Ranch Style Factory

23 July 2009 - 09:56 AM

This has been bugging me for some time. Back in the early 70s when we passed by the Ranch Style factory that's located on Presidio Street near 287 and the downtown mixmaster, I am almost positive they used to have a water tower or something that had the name on it. The structure looked like it was shingled if my memory is correct. I think it was black with white letters saying Ranch Style Beans. Am I remembering correctly? I wrote to them asking for any information but the letter has gone ignored for a year. They now have a black square on their building that says Ranch Style, but that is not what I remember.

Two old photos, possibly Fort Worth

07 July 2009 - 11:27 PM

Here I have two photos that were recently sent to me in the hope that I could identify them.
I'm not going to embed them here because they are a little too big.
Here are links to them:

The first photo, the sender believed it was the old Lake Worth bridge on Jacksboro Highway.
But from looking at some old photos from the newspaper, showing the bridge on piers and not a continuous support ,and other differences such as the apparent spillway, I think it is not that bridge. The construction looks pretty sturdy, as if that is a river not a lake below. I'm not sure any of the bridges in this area used that construction back then (you can see the 1920s style vehicles, so guessing pre-1930 on the date)
Any ideas on what this could be or where that style of construction was used?

The second photo is of the sender's Great Aunt, and she thinks it is in Fort Worth. Note there is a car and a horse-drawn buggy in the photo, and no pavement. That should date it. I couldn't find that building anywhere in this website or in my books either, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in Fort Worth. I'm hoping the eyeglasses sign above might be a further clue.

Any clues will be appreciated. It was a fun search for me too but I've run out of resources.
