#103640 Popluck Festival - 6/17/17 at Shipping & Receiving

Posted by McHand on 13 June 2017 - 07:07 AM

Kevin Buchanan (Fort Worthology) and I are in a band called The Crystal Furs, and we are hosting and playing a festival this Saturday at Shipping & Receiving. It's a good drive for Tarrant Area Food Bank, so bring a donation and get in for $5!

#100210 Best Discovery of the Year

After three years of waiting, in August ground broke one the Victory Forest Recreation Center.  It will open in January.  http://fortworthtexa...ictoryforestcc/

Edit: I don't know if this qualifies as "best," but some of us Southsiders are really looking forward to this!

#98839 Ridglea Presbyterian Church

In church now. Church voted to sell, and now the Presbytery must approve.

The truth is, the building has become more of a liability for the membership over the years. As a preservationist, my heart is broken, but as a musician at RPC, I understand the motive.

When I hear "Midtown" I think of Manhattan, and if it's another town's Midtown, then I think they're trying to be like Manhattan.

#98109 Sale of historic downtown church in limbo

Posted by McHand on 25 July 2016 - 03:30 PM

It goes back to the old idea that the church is the people, not the building.

I think it's wonderful that there is a congregation that can buy the building and repair it.  For once, a historic church in our city is not in danger of demolition!

Perhaps Mt. Gilead and Paradox can share the space.  I really hope a compromise can be reached.

#97572 Stop Six as historic district

Stop Six is a grid neighborhood bordered by spaghetti street neighborhoods.  The integrity of the grid should be maintained.

In that case, I'd take my money where that's not an issue. Like Hemphill & Berry. ;)

#93449 Arlington, TX - the city that hates tourists the most ???

Don't forget, Dismuke, that Arlington voters approved the Jerry World tax. They brought it on themselves.

#92960 Dream Vision/Celebrate Fort Worth June 1st

Six months on, the Dallas Morning News has an update on the theme park. Or, to be precise, an update on the lack of updates: Planned $3.5 billion Fort Worth theme park still a mystery

Ugh... can we please just STOP with this already? We know it's not happening.

That video alone was worth the post.

#92671 New Construction near Evans/Rosedale Urban Village

Posted by McHand on 30 July 2015 - 03:29 PM

Overall, they are good, and hopefully will spur more development.

I agree. I think it's too early in this redevelopment game to be very nit picky about veneers.  These houses have new amenities and at least try to hearken back to the front-porch days most of us on this forum know and love.  We need to pick our design battles at this stage in the game.  Personally, I'm ecstatic that they are not standard garage in front suburban brick boxes, which very well could have been built there.

#92578 New Construction near Evans/Rosedale Urban Village

Posted by McHand on 26 July 2015 - 05:24 PM

These are being built on Pulaski Street, a block down from the plaza on Evans Avenue.

Great examples of new construction that is affordable while utilizing pedestrian-friendly design.  The attached garages (not

pictured) are street-facing but in the rear of the house.

The first home neighbors a vacant lot.  Given the construction of two brand-new homes of thoughtful design,

Pulaski Street seems to be in the very center of the upward swing of revitalization.
